Memes and Things

I thought I'd get this in before the much hyped winter storm that is assailing the southeast arrives. The models keep changing and it looks like it boils down to +/- of 1 degree on the side of 32F. It is mass chaos down here. The "ones who sell the bread and milk" along with television advertisements, have whipped folks into a frenzy with some stores reporting bare shelves/coolers. When it first began some reports indicated Huntsville, AL could receive up to 18" of snow. It has been down graded from Sunday to ice and rain at present. We will see. My hope is to have uninterrupted electrical service, but the potential is high that we might lose it. After this mess moves out, Artic temps will make their way into the state with windchill factors in the negative numbers through Wednesday. Stay warm and safe and until next time, I'll be chunking the fire. I could barely see her, but the girl in front of the mirror is supposed to be Farrah Fawcett.in her college days (circa 1967). I scratch my head and wonder what the hell happened?

    1. One of the best. The opening gunshots of the firefight synched with the drum break into the chorus.

  4. Hey, I recognize that place.... The Pink Pony Pub. I didn't know that you were from "My Alabama." I grew up in Bon Secour and drove my '68 Firebird to the hangout on Saturday night. Seeing the Pink Pony brought back a flood of memories... good times.

    1. Besides the loads of nostalgia therein, the PP had a great cheeseburger and some very cold beer the last time I visited. I'm in the "Tennessee" part of Alabama (350 miles north the GoA), but still in "The Heart of Dixie".

  5. Forget Crockett and Tubbs. Cool is Chris, Vin, Lee, Britt, Bernardo. Harry, and Chico riding into Mexico backed by Elmer Bernstein's greatest score.

    1. Miami Vice was OK back in the day and I was a "sometimes watcher". I remember that scene and thought it was cool at the time I suppose. The scene from "The Magnificent Seven" described by edutcher is a very cool one too. Lot's of "cool"/favorite movie scenes out there. Perhaps I should put up a "name your favorite" or "the coolest movie scene ever" in the future where favorites are listed in the comments??? Scenes from Clint Eastwood films come to mind (i.e. Unforgiven/the killing of Little Bill)

    1. Well, yes - but Nuuk is not exactly big even though it's the largest population center in Greenland...

  7. Where I am in WV is somewhere between 16" and 20". Not a deal breaker either way. I'll make sure the genny is ready just in case, but probably do the commute to work Monday morning regardless if the building is open or not. It's what they pay me for, and a building without people means I can get something done for a change.

  8. I was sitting on the patio at the Pony in the spring of 2012 having a Coke when two fighters buzzed the shoreline about 20’ off the water. It sent chills up my spine when one inverted on the return pass headed back to the west. We could see the pilot’s face and I stood and saluted.

    2. Damn! That brings back some memories camping down by Gulf Shores. Had the best hamburgers! I loved their fried Blue Crab Claws and Shrimp, I need to move back and become a beach bum. Beer so cold it hurt your teeth, I swear!

  13. Pansies. We are looking at - 16 F for the next couple days, in Northern Wisconsin.

  14. +/- one degree around 32 F. Up here in Indiana we would kill for that - once the temperature drops below 20 F on Thursday afternoon we MAY have 2 hours in the next 10 days with the still air temperature above 20 F

  15. I got a call from a good friend who lives in central IN day before yesterday. He was driving home, the sun was still shinning, and it was 6 degrees with temps forecasted to be well below zero.

  16. Here in NC they were calling for 13 inches of snow. It has now changed to all ice. We will definitely lose power.

  19. Looks like here in Charleston we will dodge the bullet, but Columbia and Greenville are going to get 2-3 days of sleet and freezing rain. My State Guard unit has been put on standby for storm debris clean-up. Man, I thought I got away from this stuff when I escaped the Peoples Republic of Vermont!
