It is sometimes amazing the "whoppers" people will tell to promote their point of view, cause, etc., knowingly lying believing the end justifys their actions.
The experts that first carbon-dated it lied out their collective ass. The Catholic Church let them fuck with The Shroud and was excoriated by the media and the intelligentsia for not believing the 'scientific findings.' And the later group that finally got access to The Shroud were basically under suspicion from the beginning, with The Church doing full background examinations and complete reviews of all published materials by the scientists.
Survey says... The Shroud is, yes, indeed, about 2000 years old.
2000 years +/- how many .... 5... 10... 100... years. gotta hav that +/- or what....?? I worked in Aerospace long enough................. no number is always "EXACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Audentes, Frtuna, Iuvat, III%, skybill
John 20:6-8 KJVS Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, [7] And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. [8] Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
There you go, applying common sense and evidence out of the mouth of one of the Twelve Disciples to disprove this stupid fakery. The Shroud Of B.S. has always been nothing but a hoax for the gullible, proving nothing substantive even were it absolutely and irreproachably authentic, which it clearly is not.
Duplicitous faking of religious artifacts to wheedle a few pieces of silver or gold from the gullible had a long and distinguished tradition in the Roman Catholic Church since the earliest times, and this is just another example of such.
Nothing more, nor less.
There are plenty of reasons for faith in Jesus and the Resurrection. This bogus rag comprises exactly none of them.
I'm Christian and was a fence sitter but over the last 6 months or so revelations (claims?) about the science around it are challenging. If what is claimed is true, there's way cool science at work here we can't duplicate yet. I'm starting to think it is what it's claimed to be but don't need it to accept that Jesus is who he said he is. In and of itself, cool trick or not, the shroud doesn't prove divinity but it could be a great opening to the real discussion.
Nothing in the 20th chapter of John precludes the shroud being the burial cloth of Jesus. I don't know if it is or not and my faith does not depend on it, it depends on Jesus.
I've actually seen the shroud of Turin. I'm not sure if it's been publicly shown since then, but in 1978 when I was stationed in Germany, several of us drove down to Turin to see it. We waited in a line that was about 10 yards wide and about 1/2 a mile long when we started. They moved you through pretty fast and although you could take photos, flash was not allowed.
Lot of butt hurt here; the world is full of evidence of God if you are willing to be open to it. The preponderance of evidence is the Shroud is what it is and in this day and age we could not duplicate it which alone is something to give one pause.
What is worse; A man whom trusts in God he cannot see or an atheist whom rails against a God he does not believe in?
Amazing story of suppression of evidence. Go read it.

Christians 1, Science and Atheists 0.
a date doesn't make it real. and carbon dating isn't all that accurate.
Deleteit also doesn't make it fake. best to not fall for relics. they are not required for faith.

So.....there dies the Turin shroud myth.

March is a muddy month, down there. Some people like it. Farmers, mostly.

Blessed are those who cannot see, yet still believe. Yes I’m blessed.
