How to purchase 1911s through the restarted Civilian Marksmanship Program

  1. Having gotten one in the lottery a few years ago, I can say that they are nicely refinished old pistols.

Not all that great except for collector value (or just the "Cool! Check this out!" bit, but not really worth the money either.

    YMMV

    1. A friend got one of the $1300 1911's and I was not impressed. I don't need another safe queen and they are priced a little high. I have a Colt Government model Competition series that is almost 10 years old. It is in great shape but I can't get what I paid for it and a new one is now $250 more and $300 less than a CMP 1911.

    1. Add to that jumping through a bunch of hoops; proof of citizenship, membership in a CMP club...

      Fxk that

    2. Ditto: To much bullshit for too little value.

  4. WTF, Just looked at the grades and starting price, it's $1100 !!! Just buy a new Springfield or other 45 maker, they are better than sight unseen. Maybe if you are some kind of history buff, but no way would I pay that. A new Colt Gold Cup national match I just saw was $1200...

  6. $1100 for a used antique? No thanks. Rock Island Armory has damned good, brand new 1911s for half that

  7. Unfortunately I’m a Mass resident, and it’s the only state excluded from this offer.

  8. Perhaps DOGE can look at why these are priced as such!(sarc) I get it, they are historical but 25 years ago I had an O7 license and the I sold out and got an O3. I remember and stil own Mausers, Enfields and M-Ns for little $. Today Enfields are going for big DOLLARS. Perhaps these guns are like the gold pricing, they reflect how much our dollar has been devalued since 1973!

  9. A number of years ago, Colt made brand new Government model 1911s. I forget what they cost at the time, but I think there was a WW1 and a WW2 version. I bought one then. You may see one on Gunbroker, not sure what they are worth now. I will check to see what is what.

  10. I did the CMP pistol order a couple of years ago and I got a "goodun". It was a Remington Rand 1944 frame and an all WW2 gun less the replacement barrel. I agree the pistols have a very high sticker price, but they aren't making any more of the nostalgic Browning design like the ones Uncle Sam issued and for whatever reason, these guns are highly sought after collector items. I have a $300 Tisa 1911 nowadays to satisfy my 1911 (GREAT GUN) craving, but may buy another CMP 1911 as an investment (check current prices on GB). I have a friend who knows and loves 1911s. He has a 1911 that came out of CMP. The pistol was issued to a well known SF outfit during one of the recent desert wars. He posted some pictures of the gun along with the verifiable history on a 1911 forum and received all sorts of offers. He wasn't wanting to sell it and has not even though he has a standing offer of $10k for the piece from a very credible buyer. Some guys have all the luck.

  11. CMP accepted my C&R FFL and shipped my Garand to my door.
Now they want two background checks, AND a Dealer transfer fee?
A premium price for a luck-of-the-draw used pistol?
    Pass...

    1. Still will ship a Garand to your door. The pistol program is now a separate entity.

  12. Ridiculous prices, and the process is beyond stupid. AND you leave tracks. Nope. Private sale for the win.

  13. Looks like the Colt reissue sells for about $2200.00 or so.I will pass on the CMP 1911, though they do have a bit of history behind them, I suppose. I agree there is too much paperwork involved. Please tell me why they require your Social Security number...

  14. Too friggen expensive, this sounds like an effbeeeye screw anyone they can pogram. And the cost is just another way to fuck us right square in the ass.

  15. They also say there are possible commercial parts and repairs, not military armorer repairs.
    That would piss me off.

  16. Meh.
Been collection Colt 1911's for a while; it would nearly kill this cheap old bastard to pay what they want for an arguably inferior product now.

  17. You need to show affiliation with a CMP club. That usually means that 100% of the club’s members are NRA members. Not many clubs are CMP.

I trust you are healing well my friend.

  19. Parts guns. "Collectors Value" is in the eye of the beholder, since everything you add that isn't OEM drops the actual value.
I've got 2 left to build, and at $3250ea (already sold so please don't ask) the difference between the "Collectors" and "Custom" is more than just function and 'value'. My name certainly doesn't add any value to the pistol, I just customize to the owners request.
