It was probably meant for "click bait". It got me. I haven't heard any more than this small story. Bottom line is a significant number of 1911 CMP pistols are missing from the Anniston Army Depot.
In this context, it would mean 'more than one'. I suspect that they're demilled units being sold as scrap to boost the 'Buy Back' shit. Check the cats in the armory first. (Rubs thumb and index finger)
Wait!... What?! The pistols apparently went missing (were stolen) between September 2019 and March 2022? And you're just NOW telling us? And asking for information? The perps, the pistols, and any information are long scattered to the four winds by now. Seriously! How often do a'y'all do inventory? No further information on number of pistols? Types of 1911s? Serial numbers? Something hinkey about this whole thing. I wouldn't touch it with YOUR ten foot pole. President Elect B Woodman
I think it is hilarious that some people (who mostly oppose the US sending aid to Ukraine) demand “more accountability” for the arms we’re sending into a war zone (and yes we have personnel there trying to keep track of them) when we can’t even keep track of side arms in our own armory, and don’t even notice for quite a while when they’re gone.
One method that I was taught, was to take your total line items, and divide by ten. Take and do 10% every month, and by the end of the year, you've done 120% inventory. Lather, rinse, repeat annually. Cuts an overwhelming large task down to a manageable size. President Elect B Woodman
US dot mil discontinued use of 1911s some time ago, replaced by Beretta 9mm. Last units phased out 1989. It took the US gov't that long to unload (ahem) all those pistols? Sticky fingers in armory cookie jars perhaps? Personally a big fan of .45 ACP.
They actually caught the guys. Two guys stationed at the Anniston depot were caught, tried under the UCMJ, and sentenced to time in Leavenworth. It was in our local Anniston paper.
So does that mean that the pistols are accounted for, or are they still out there? Or are they conveniently still available for "distribution ". Gotta have some way to arm the hordes of undocumented military-aged males i.e. "newcomers"
You mean the reams of paperwork we went through to buy a gun from the DCM (mine was bought in 1962) was unnecessary? All we had to do was slip a few bucks to a stock clerk? I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked! Round up the usual suspects.
Sh*t house full.
ReplyDeleteInterwebs say 98 are missing. Also there were some missing from a depot in Georgia

ReplyDeleteI am guessing that the number is more than $10K worth. What do you think? 10x the reward value? More?
ReplyDeleteTalk about "Click Bait", the linked article is behind a PAY WALL/LOGIN WALL.
ReplyDeleteAfter searching for another article the answer to the "significant" question appears to be 100 or more.
Nemo
Wow, Nemo! That is significant! LOL

You can steal a lot of pistols over a 2 1/2 year period, so significant number could be as high as a butt load.

ReplyDeleteNot exactly the first time in American history that arms have gone missing from an armory.
DeleteOnly a goobermint run entity or brothel could fail that bad. Probably a miss count or jogger
