Sadly it is far to late. As long as you have power or fuel, you will survive. Other than that, well........ From Manitoba Canada and Calgary Alberta, where it is almost 40 below.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Alberta at my place has been between -34 and -36 everyday plus winds. Drifts in some places over 4 feet high.... usually across roads.

Here in W TN, we are expected go below freezing at dusk tonight and stay there until sometime Monday afternoon. The longer it stays below freezing, the greater the chances of having problems. Water heaters are installed in attics down here, so they may need extra attention.

ReplyDeleteBorn in 1943 in New England just North of Boston. We used to get this every few years and I grew up thinking it was normal. As I got more experience over my 79 years of life I realized that climate/weather is cyclical and when you get a few relatively nice years you tend to be more surprised when the weather cycles back to what it's always been. My Uncle had a two bedroom two story in Vermont. It had an outside stairway and door to the upstairs bedroom in addition to the inside stairs. As a child it seemed strange so I asked him why he had an outside door in his bedroom. He said that the blizzards would drop 2-4 feet of snow and with the wind it would block his downstairs doors so that upstairs door was the only way out. Life goes on.
ReplyDeleteWe had a snow squall blow in early this morning. Only about an inch fell, but it was blowing sideways and pretty much caused a whiteout. Temps are -8 at 0930; going up to around 2 later today. Keep warm and toasty!
ReplyDeleteBeing stationed at Minot, ND taught me a LOT about Cold Weather Survival. After 50 years, I remember it all. Especially now that Old Man Winter is in a pissy mood this year!

ReplyDeleteInterior Alaska here, where what you guys are experiencing we call Wednesday. Been -40 or colder for at least a week. Winter gear in the car no matter where you’re going., along with spare socks & gloves or mittens. Wet stuff does absolutely no good in the cold. No less than half a tank. At least 3 ways to start a fire…. No one goes outside alone if they can avoid it…falling and busting a hip or ankle can be no shit fatal in this kind of weather.
