Of course there were no "transgender" kids when we were growing up. There were some girls who seemed a bit more "boyish" and there were some boys who seemed a bit more feminine, but nobody was lying to them convincing them that they were something they weren't, telling them they could change what they were, or anything of the sort. There were parents who worked to maybe move them in the direction their genes pointed them. Most importantly, they made it clear to them that whatever they felt, it wasn't going to hold them back in life, and that once they were older, spent more time around other folks, etc they would likely change how they felt about most things in life....and they were all fine.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget peer pressure - some behaviors would get your ass kicked...daily. Very effective.
