I am thinking about buying a drone. Does anyone have any pros or cons to offer?

I have tentatively narrowed it down to the SJRC F11 PRO.

  1. Buy extra batteries and keep them charged. Keeps you flying.

  2. For sure. I have read that one of the few negatives with this drone (and some others) is the 4-5 hour battery charge time.

  3. A couple of years ago I bought a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. Really nice, easy to control, takes good pictures and video, and $700 at the time. Late last year I bought an Eachine E58 from banggood for about $40. Still a lot of fun, but at less than 100 grams it can be blown away by a light breeze. Yep, it flew away. It's a lot harder to control and the video has a low frame rate. It's a lot more value for the dollar than the DJI for the casual "droner". The SJRC F11 PRO looks somewhere in between.

These new little drones have a lot of cool gadget features, and the cost is really low. When I bought the DJI, my first concern was that I would fly it a few times and then put it on a shelf. That sort of happened. With a less expensive drone, it's not as big a deal if that happens.

    1. Jeffrey, thanks for the input. I think I'll use it and given the price range it won't break the bank if I crash it or lose interest. LOL

  4. Don't know about that particular drone but that guy is really annoying. I have a DJI Phantom 4. A buddy of mine gave it to me or I wouldn't have it. Great drone but expensive. For the money that one doesn't look too bad. It's a lot of fun.

    1. I agree Ralph/Donna. That guy is annoying as hell. I used that video because it was short and more to the point than most. If you come across one that is more to your liking, send me a link and I'll add it. Thanks for stopping by.

    Yep.

    "Super, super, super..."

    How obnoxious.

  6. Considering my experience I'd buy a cheap one and learn to fly it well before spending big money on one. Some controllers can connect with software so you can also fly in VR - virtual reality. I bought one (not with a vr compatible controller unfortunately) and on almost the first flight out I watched it go up up up and then land in the woods adjacent to my property. Never did see it again. As I believed it was an error in the controller/receiver and was able to convince the support rep, I was able to get a replacement. If it was pilot error, I would have been out.

  9. You might want to disable the kill switch. My understanding is all commercially produced drones have a kill switch which is outside of your control. I've also read that continuous GPS signal is used by 'others'. I'll leave it to you to solve who, or what, that might be.
