The 1751 Machine that Made Everything

  1. That's the second time I've watched this. It's fascinating.
It reminds me of another video I watched a couple of years ago about a Rev War era American who built his own lathe, from basically scratch. The King had all raw materials shipped to England and you had to buy castings and have them shipped back. They built lathes by hand, including hardening of tool steels. It was an awesome video.

  2. Had to let the fucking cat out. Anyway, this video was like a an old movie/documentary and was in black and white.

  3. I couldn't find the one I was thinking of but did run across another one I had watched a couple of years ago also called Colonial Gunsmith.
It's another documentary/film that follows a guy building a Flintlock rifle from some raw bars of wrought iron, a plank of wood and some scraps of brass. exactly as it was done back then. It's from 1969 and very well done.

It took six days just to make the barrel, 300 hours to complete it and he made most of his own tools.
It's an hour long but a great video.
