Buffalo soldiers never slaughtered anybody. They always served with honor and courage. Please learn more about them before you slander the 10th Cavalry. Slandering soldiers in order to meme your political opponents is pretty low.
Neither did the white soldiers (the Indians at Wounded Knee weren't unarmed, they were better armed than the troopers, they wanted a fight, they started the fight, and they did it in the middle of the village), but the Lefties never let facts get in their way.
Robin, the post of this meme wasn't intended as a slight or slander to the Buffalo Soldiers or any soldiers. It was simply political satire, but since you brought it up, please allow me to expound. The Buffalo Soldiers originally made up the 9th and 10th (or elements thereof) of the U.S. Calvary. They did there job as soldiers and did it well. They "fought" in over 177 engagements and countless skirmishes. Twenty-three Buffalo Soldiers were awarded the CMH. Using the word slaughter would have been poor PR practice in the time the Buffalo Soldiers were riding the plains "fighting" the Indians. Just as the word "massacre" was a harsh word when co-joined with a place called Wounded Knee where at least 150 (some accountants list at least 300) unarmed Native American women, children, and old men were __________ (fill in the blank with whatever works best for you Robin: Slaughtered, massacred, dispatched, eliminated, "dealt with", etc.). One of the Buffalo Soldiers received the CMH for his actions at the Wounded Knee _____________. Still, I am not picking on the Buffalo Soldiers or any soldiers for that matter. Bad things happen in all wars and often times these bad things are carried out by good people who would never do such bad things under "normal" conditions. I said that to say if a person was a Native American of that time who was being systematically driven off their native lands either by genocide, starvation/eliminating the buffalo as a food source, or forced resettlement for "westward expansion", one would see things from an entirely different point of view. As you well know, the natives were defeated and the victors wrote the history. It is up to us to dig deeper than the stories told in the public school systems and by Hollywood. Below is what one surviving native wrote about the Buffalo Soldiers:
"As former victims of racism, the Buffalo Soldiers became the champions of RAPE, GENOCIDE, BRUTALITY AND MASS MURDER OF INNOCENT PEOPLE. They took pride in killing people who never did anything to them. They forgot all about the help we gave them because slavery is a violation of our Great Law. The Choctaw, Cherokee and Shawnee helped them escape from their slave masters to the north. We were called “non-reformable savages”. They were told there is a time when it is okay to kill Indians and those who did so were a force for good. With pride and fervor, they attacked us 127 times to try to exterminate us."
I feel bad for you. Not only are you filled with hate, but your belief that you know history is sad. Come visit the Buffalo Soldier's Monument, see some real buffalo, and stop by the Center for Military History. You will learn things.
Your sympathies are not needed nor are they welcome here Robin. What truly is sad is the fact that you believe anyone who disagrees with your point of view is "filled with hate". Only an insane person could construe anything I've written or posted here regarding this subject as "hateful". I am not sure what visiting the Buffalo Soldier's Monument might do, but obviously it has hypnotized you. I have seen "real" buffalo in the wild and they were amazing. I get the impression that you do not share the same passion for monuments honoring Robert E. Lee, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, or other heroes of the CSA as you do for the BS. I'll make sure to put you on the "prayer list". Thanks for stopping by.

DeleteThat's the point of the message.

DeleteIt will go bye-byes, too.
ReplyDeleteEver notice Hollyweird never did a big movie about the Buffalo Soldiers?
