2.5 ounces a day ...... YA right.....

Small quantities of processed meat such as bacon, sausages or salami can increase the likelihood of dying by a fifth, researchers from Harvard School of Medicine found. Eating steak increases the risk of dying by 12%.
The study found that cutting the amount of red meat in peoples’ diets to 1.5 ounces (42 grams) a day, equivalent to one large steak a week, could prevent almost one in 10 early deaths in men and one in 13 in women.
The scientists said that the government’s current advice that people should eat no more than 2.5 ounces (70 grams) a day, around around the level the average Briton already consumes, was “generous”.
Dr Frank Hu, co-author of the study, said: “Given the growing evidence that even modest amounts of red meat is associated with increased risk of chronic disease and premature death, 2.5 ounces (70 grams) per day seems generous. The bottom line is that we should make red meat only an occassional rather than regular part of our diet.”
Red meat often contains high amounts of saturated fat, while bacon and salami contain large amounts of salt. Replacing red meat with poultry, fish or vegetables, whole grains and other healthy foods cut the risk of dying by up to one fifth, the study found.

  1. "increase the likelihood of dying by a fifth". So are these people saying if we don't eat meat we will live forever? That shit didn't work out too good for Steve Jobs.

We are all gonna die, I think I'll go out with a some prime rib on my breath.

  2. I've got a great doctor- when he oversaw my recent weight loss, he had me in his office once a month and we went over my diet- despite his best efforts, between 60 and 70lbs in, I started losing muscle- he told me to exercise less and eat way more red meat- given a rampant metabolic demand, the body at some point requires high-protein, high-fat and high-salt intake, and beef is the perfect food for that.
...and like an ass, I didn't let up on the exercise, and became anemic, anyhow.
These studies are only as good as their participants- no mention is made of athletic vs. sedentary lifestyles, labor vs.deskbound employment, etc.
Luckily for me, I plan to live long enough to make my kid change MY diaper for at least 3 years.

  4. Don't care about some study or the doctor's OPINION! Next week they'll have a study that claims the complete opposite.
So I think I'll have a 24 ounce steak today, and wait for the next study.

  5. I don't know about y'all but I CRAVE red meat. And In the real peoples world 1.5 ounced does not make a large steak. That's about one bite. A large steak starts about 16 ounces.

  6. Don't worry, next week a study will come out stating the exact opposite.

  7. So if I quit eating meat and die next month it will seem as if I lived forever, right?
