OMG!!!! What was that he hit?
I think it was the line of Joisey Barriers.
The king pin on the semi held. There is that spot of good(?) news.
The wind shifted the back axles. You can see how strong the cross wind was by looking at the trees. With that that much mass, any deviation from the intended direction is disastrous.
I've had something like this happen to me while driving a semi, only nowhere near as bad. I was hauling a long precast concrete piece, used in the construction of parking ramps, and they didn't secure the load properly (not my fault, the company that made the pieces was responsible for loading and securing them). The load was set on A-frames, so it would fit in a single lane of traffic. Someone did not secure the A-frames, and the whole load (about 25,000 lbs), shifted forward and fell flat on the trailer. It pushed the entire truck, all the way through an intersection with me stepping on the brakes as hard as I could. Very scary.
