♫♫ Tungsten Blues ♫♫ by The Third Ending... and ♫♫ Don't Hate Me ♫♫ by Steven Wilson

I heard this song by T3E on my Pandora play list while I was working on the mower. I have never heard of them but the caught my ear.

Also on that play list is Steven Wilson from "Porcupine Tree" fame.

This song has a great saxophone jam ...

Saturday Success Story Saga That Started Surreptitiously With A Sheared Shaft ...

One quick update and it ain't about a leaky spigot.

I was between chores earlier this afternoon and decided to drag the "mower" out of the shed.

It was one of those, "I'm getting it done now" moments where you plan, execute, and finish with no

distractions.  Luckily I was unsupervised and it was too nice to go inside and start next weeks FFF.

New drive installed in under an hour. From when I hooked up the chain to move it out of the corner of

the shed to driving it around the yard.  The unit I got was a direct fit/match. I'm impressed given the

fact that this mower is 15 years old.

I only grabbed a couple pics for the memories...

I got 5 bucks on the other side breaking tomorrow while I'm mowing..... you know, that Murphy guy.

One of the subjects from Irish's FFF

I bought one of these bad boys just prior to the "SCAMDEMIC" outbreak. It is a SDS "clone" of J.M. Browning's patent better known as the G.I. model 1911 in .45 acp. I paid $338.00 (and that included free shipping). The pistol is an exact mil-spec copy. They are made in Turkey (Tisas) and are of very good quality. They, like many popular firearms have been scarce lately as a result of "panic buying", but I've seen a few advertised as "in stock" in the last few days (J&G had them for $399 I believe). Sure there are more practical tactical pistols and much higher quality 1911's out there, but if anyone is looking for a great value in a 1911 shooter, I'd recommend buying one of these.

Pump. The. Fucking. Brakes. You Have To See This and Read IT With Your Own Two Eyes...

Ok, FFF is postponed 30 mins. Sorry, you can mail your complaints using USPS. :)

As I was finalizing the blog for tonight I scrolled through the sidebar.  Eatgrueldog's post title caught my

eye.  Go ahead and read it, I'll wait.........

Really??  Come on now, are they THAT FUCKING STUPID to write that?? Actually NO! It's the stupid FUCKING MORONS that are wasting oxygen that are THAT FUCKING STUPID.

Don't believe me? Here's the link. I had to prove it to myself that this was real...

The Shit You Find From One Image...

So, I'm working on FFF since it's a rainy night here and I happen upon  this image:

Damn... nagger.. that is some decent work.  So, intrigued, I carry on. It seems that is a custom beer tanker built for Roy Pitz by Hauk Customs. For the record, I've never heard of roy pitz brewery or Hauk Customs. That being said. That truck is some fine ass art.

♫♫ And then one day you find three months have got behind you...♫♫

Similar to Leigh's submittal. Some of you might remember my fiasco:

As the post from June notes, I ordered an axle repair kit. It arrived a few days later  and.......

It's September.

So now I'm looking at this in the not too distant future:

Now the clock is ticking.

Over the weekend I spent a few hours tracking down potential transmissions on ebay and craigslist. At one point I came across a cross reference chart of old part numbers to new numbers for the Hydro-gear drives that are on most lawnmowers.

I tried different search engines since they deliver a different set of results based on, I don't know, maybe, algorithms???  One of the hit's was a company called Mulligan's Parts Company ( me.. "really?") and what?? They are in Topsfield MA.. Come on this is google fucking with me. I have a 15 year old Toro with a busted axle and a company within a 3 beer drive sells new transmissions?

anyway.. someone named Santa in a UPS truck stopped by today.

Old on the left.. new on the right...

Should be able to get it installed just before the leaves fall.

One Year Ago..Redemption... Leigh Sends an Update....

A year later - redemption

Kicking off my Labor Day weekend, last year, you all may remember this:
Torque Converter failure.....

This year, a completely different story.
The wife's nephew got married this weekend, in Kentucky. Left the house at 3:20am, and landed in Georgetown right at 3:30pm. By the best to my recollection, I got passed by roughly five cars total on the way down. We were really hauling the mail. Other than dinner the first night, we mostly rode around with her family.
On the way home, I was not going to go through Cincinatti. The roads are a total cluster, with all of the road construction. So the decision was made to go straight east, and make our way through the Cumberland Gap. The ride home was soooooo much better. The roads were more interesting and a lot less traffic. One thing it took its toll on, was my fuel milage. There were hills where it was down in third gear for a mile or better, right around 4200 - 4500 rpm. It sucked it right up like no big deal.

1885 miles and not a single issue. Nothing, nothing at all. It didn't skip, sputter, or heat up - no matter how much I pounded it. The worst thing that happened was a wheel weight came off at 85+mph, and had a shimmy from the right front. Had to be the inside weight; as it made a hell of a racket, banging around the inner fender, when it came off.

Speaking of fuel milage, I haven't gotten an official total consumption figure, but my initial figure is 24.5 +/- mpg. Considering my average rate of travel was between 75 - 85mph, and we came home through the Appalachian Mountains, I'd figure that is pretty damn good. By my rough calculations, on the way down, it was getting right around 26.

As is my tradition; cars I own, that have proved their worth, become vested. I am going to have to name it now.

(pay no attention to the 2 year old deer dent in the hood πŸ˜€ )

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

BPSCLM? (Bass Pro Shop Customers Lives Matter) Foiled Mass Shooting?

Below are some details out of Spanish Fort, Alabama where Robert Smith (photo seen above) loaded up his magazines, rifles, pistols, ammo, and a shotgun then headed to the local Bass Pro Shop. Wearing body armor, Smith commenced firing into the ATV/Boating department of the store. Fortunately, Smith was taken into custody along with a female subject who was later released. The only injury noted was slight and to a local police officer while attempting to subdue Smith. This story was kept on the "down low" until this morning. The first reports I heard on a local television station stated that over 1,000 rounds had been fired by Smith from an AR-15 and AR-10. There was also a couple of reports that mentioned the female with Smith was actually "throwing" ammo to Smith so he could reload magazines. Robert Smith's family released a statement yesterday saying this was "out of character for Robert and he just wasn't himself". Police say they are convinced Smith was there to carry out a "mass shooting".  In addition to the eight guns found in Smith's possession at the scene, ten more guns and over a thousand rounds of ammunition were found in Smith's home after the fact.

The New Soundtrack For Antifa....

Must Watch Video... and some interesting data about positive testing from an unlikely source.

Just in case the video disappears from twatter:

Here is the article from, yes, the New Yawk Times...

Your Coronavirus Test Is Positive. Maybe It Shouldn’t Be.

/snip

In the article they do recommend more testing, BUT the current testing seems to be extremely flawed.

The PCR test amplifies genetic matter from the virus in cycles; the fewer cycles required, the greater the amount of virus, or viral load, in the sample. The greater the viral load, the more likely the patient is to be contagious.
This number of amplification cycles needed to find the virus, called the cycle threshold, is never included in the results sent to doctors and coronavirus patients, although it could tell them how infectious the patients are.
In three sets of testing data that include cycle thresholds, compiled by officials in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada, up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus, a review by The Times found.
On Thursday, the United States recorded 45,604 new coronavirus cases, according to a database maintained by The Times. If the rates of contagiousness in Massachusetts and New York were to apply nationwide, then perhaps only 4,500 of those people may actually need to isolate and submit to contact tracing.
One solution would be to adjust the cycle threshold used now to decide that a patient is infected. Most tests set the limit at 40, a few at 37. This means that you are positive for the coronavirus if the test process required up to 40 cycles, or 37, to detect the virus.
Tests with thresholds so high may detect not just live virus but also genetic fragments, leftovers from infection that pose no particular risk — akin to finding a hair in a room long after a person has left, Dr. Mina said.

Any test with a cycle threshold above 35 is too sensitive, agreed Juliet Morrison, a virologist at the University of California, Riverside. “I’m shocked that people would think that 40 could represent a positive,” she said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it is examining the use of cycle threshold measures “for policy decisions.” The agency said it would need to collaborate with the F.D.A. and with device manufacturers to ensure the measures “can be used properly and with assurance that we know what they mean.”
The C.D.C.’s own calculations suggest that it is extremely difficult to detect any live virus in a sample above a threshold of 33 cycles. Officials at some state labs said the C.D.C. had not asked them to note threshold values or to share them with contact-tracing organizations.
For example, North Carolina’s state lab uses the Thermo Fisher coronavirus test, which automatically classifies results based on a cutoff of 37 cycles. A spokeswoman for the lab said testers did not have access to the precise numbers.

This amounts to an enormous missed opportunity to learn more about the disease, some experts said.
“It’s just kind of mind-blowing to me that people are not recording the C.T. values from all these tests — that they’re just returning a positive or a negative,” said Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University in New York.
“It would be useful information to know if somebody’s positive, whether they have a high viral load or a low viral load,” she added.

I did some google searching for cycle threshold and testing and the number of cycles for the RT-PCR testing and found this article..From back in May

Correlation between successful isolation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in cell culture and cycle threshold (Ct) value of quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) targeting E gene suggests that patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with Ct above 33 to 34 are not contagious and can be discharged from hospital care or strict confinement, according to a brief report published in the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.
