If You Saw The Clip About The Private Helicopter Pilot Threatened With Arrest....

Here is a great follow up, where the journalist actually does his job interviewing the town manager.

  1. Melton's picture is out there now so I guess, for better or worse, locals will judge his actions as reasonable or unreasonable based on whether they think assistance, especially such quality assistance, should be thanked rather than threatened. I suspect he'll be low profile for a while.

  6. That's just another damn bureaucrat - like the "city manager" - they don't care about anything than their procedures and area of authority - not responsibility!

Soviet-style blindness to reality. There is no recovery for those people in Absolute Authority.
So just don't listen to them.

  9. That officious lady near the end exemplifies government in all it's awfulness. Instead of coming out and saying the idiot who threatened the pilot trying to save their citizens was wrong, she went full defensive government hack protecting another incompetent government hack. The people who pay their salaries are their least concern.

  12. Having volunteered for 11 years with my local fire/ambulance department; I can see the side of those government drones.
BUT, being a human being; I can see the need for quick and rapid response to save human lives.
I side with the citizens that risked their lives to help out.

  17. She makes out like the Jordan (pilot) had no quals. He gave his quals to the Michigan Chief. And he obeyed all FCC requirements for flying there.

"His son, a high school junior, went along. Both are volunteer members of the Sandhills Volunteer Fire Department in Pageland, South Carolina. Seidhom is a Class 1 certified law enforcement officer and a pilot with nearly 1,400 flight hours."

  19. Unbelievable bullshit. Who gave the fireman arrest authority. This is like Uvalde Tx where the police physically stopped the parents from rescuing their own children and then stood around with their thumb up their ass is children were killed. The fireman suffered severe butt hurt because this hero's action made him look incompetent. A crisis or national emergency doesn't negate the constitution. We as citizens retain our right to travel and take action to help others. I hope there is push back and even jail time for these petty tyrants.

  20. Funny, no one complained when a flotilla of private boats rescued people on 9/11. Bureaucratic bullshit; your tax dollars at work.

  21. This is total Bullsh**, After Katrina, Rumsfield, who I am not a big fan of, told the DoD to send help and we will catch up on the paperwork. Saving lives is the FIRST priority in any emergency. This is what is wrong with too many who have power of the citizens, they rule like dictators.

  22. I would've "called my boys." They would've been there to take a bit of wind out of the potential arresting person's sails.
The woman officer also would've been attitude-adjusted.

  23. What a crock... Probably the State Governor is trying to control the narrative of this Katrina-like fiasco.

If they were illegal aliens, they would have been flown in, given $5k EBT cards and flown them to another GOP district.

  25. Sadly this situation happens frequently during emergency operations where you have piss poor communications, EOPs managers who’ve only experienced this through the training “slide decks”, or “little Mussolini's” who are “in charge and you’ll do what I say”. My response to the “assistant hemorrhoid farmer” when threatened with arrest would’ve been “you touch me and I’ll defend myself”. Some Fire and Rescue “Hose Jackets” are sworn to a degree where they can place an individual in custody many are not.
This looks like a communication breakdown of monumental proportion. You have one agency fueling private aircraft for rescue ops and another cordoning off areas and letting victims hang out to dry. Having some experience with this type of operation, the rapid turn around in allowing private operators to fly sorties tells me the “handle-bared douchebag” got the message from high up to stand down. The town manager looks dumb for defending a poor, incorrect, and short-sighted action that most likely was douchebag’s snap decision. Command presence in these situations isn’t laying down the law necessarily it’s finding the way to address the concern rapidly and effectively.
Kudos to helicopter guy and his boy. It takes an awesome person to want to burden themselves with that kind of risk.
The correct decision from the “threatening ass clown” would’ve been to communicate back to command that they’ve just had a private aircraft bring a victim out of the impact area and to seek guidance on how to utilize this resource. Instead it appears he let his limited IQ or pride or both get in the way of the proper decision.
The fella left behind had to hike out. He could’ve fell or been incapacitated in a manner that would’ve made a very different ending to the story.
Pulled across a raging debris filled river or flown out in relative comfort, what’s the better decision?

  28. That community should beat both of those fuckheads to death, in public, with pipes, rocks, and bare hands, and leave the bodies mounted on spikes as a warning to the next would-be assholes anywhere within the reach of the internet.

Second best would be Trial By Ordeal, by sewing them into burlap sacks, tying rocks around their ankles, and dropping them alive and screaming into the lake.
