but it appears some people do. I was on eBay this evening. I had been searching for various "bags". Some included the word "repro". At some point, I typed leather haversack into the search bar. This was the first search result that appeared:
I am needing a pouch of some sort to carry a few extra items around in an urban setting. I believe a backpack might be to large and thought I would investigate "man purses". I am open to suggestions.
Wasn't sure where you were going with that at first, so decided to not automatically post a snark comment. Something to consider might be a Carrhart lunch bag, look up model CI0304, not expensive, there are others with higher prices on the company website.
What you're looking for is a messenger bag. Which is a modern medieval wallet (basically a man purse.)
Type in "leather messenger bag" into your search or on Amazon and you'll find something. Stay away from Temu merch, though, as Temu seems to only sell crap that looks good on the ads.
Try looking up ‘cross body satchel for men’ or cross-body messenger bag for men’. They even have traveling ones that have social features to deter theft.
Thanks to all for the great suggestions. Between price, styles, materials, etc. there is a plethora from which to choose. Those were just what I was looking for.
Most of the choices are too effeminate or they require carrying them in your hand. The backpack is the most logical and most common, i.e. you don't look as odd. Black or gray ish. small ish and somewhat shapeless. The only thjing on the outside would be a water bottle, kind of reaffirms it is just some junk in a backpack and not weapons or break in tools. If you carry a backpack like this in the city make sure there is nothing in it of real value and nothing that is illegal and suspicious because it will be looked into at various venues.
Ammunition Depot has a sale on Rattlesnake Tactical sling bags with pistol retention for just under $20.00 I purchased three. I also have a couple Palmetto State Armory sling bags which are heavier duty but a little over twice the cost.
Seeing as how everyone has already given you good suggestions on your bag problem, I'll ask the question everyone was thinking- where the hell do you put the teabag?
Haversack was to the infantryman what saddle bags were to the cavalryman https://www.frederic-remington.org/thumbnail/219000/219959/mini_normal/A-Captain-Of-Infantry-In-Field-Rig.jpg?ts=1459229076
I usually use a ALICE buttpack with a sling taken off a two qt.canteen pouch carried over the shoulder will ride on eith Side you prefer. I also will sometimes you a Condor edc sling style bag ( messenger) . It has loop on the backside that you can attach to you actual belt and makes it secure to the body more. https://www.amazon.com/Condor-EDC-Bag-Coyote-Brown Klaus
I have a smallish messenger bag that I had a holster sewn into, makes a great carrier for a .45 and an extra magazine as well as whatever else I am lugging around.
I have this bag but you might like a different BLACKHAWK bag. At least you won't look like a hipster doofus with a dorkknob. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001LZPNWS
Damn thing is bomb-proof, my dad got it for me when I got to middle school for a book bag, it became a game bag for birds, possibles bag, fishing, damn near everything.
It's faded and there's nothing else I own like it, still hugs my body.
Lots of good suggestions, for sure. Here's mine: Check Duluth Pack for one of their "possibles" bags. Kind of like a messenger bag, but better canvas quality. Mine is going on fifty years and still does the job.

ReplyDeletePerhaps a fishing vest would meet the need?

ReplyDeleteThe cross body/shoulder packs are smaller than a backpack, usually bigger than a fanny pack. Not always.
ReplyDeleteI think they were telling you something. What I don’t know.
ReplyDeleteCheck out military map cases. Lots of different styles, shapes and sizes.
