The long time owner of the KC Royals-a local guy with lots of money-was responsible for getting the team set in place as an expansion team. Two stadiums were built, side by side, one for baseball and one for football, and both shared the same parking area; they were built about 40 years ago and have remained a beautiful sight as stadiums go. That guy died and the new owner wants to build a new stadium down near Union Station (place where the recent shootings occurred) at a cost of $2 billion-half paid by him and half paid by the city. IIRC, the city funded a large chunk of the twin stadiums way back when, most likely by long term bonds paid by every property owner in town. Nothing was said about plans for the old baseball stadium.
