Don't overlook the obvious: this could be simple despair and despondency at just being at Ft. Jackson, SC. Most recruits there would sympathize. So maybe they just up and died. All military branches mainly only put bases in the most awful uninhabitable sh*tholes on earth they can find, and this one is no exception. If it later becomes not quite so bad, they close it and sell it off.

Off topic: The asking of the question was super well played! Back on topic: I was thinking they might have been suicides as the cause had not been listed. On one I believe the mention was made that "no foul play was suspected" or similar.
