It's not just China. I was in a Marriott in Montreal (they converted it from something else, condos I think). Went out on the balcony and discovered that it wasn't real stable and was definitely not level. It was leaning downwards.
Looks like some of what’s called ghost cities in China. You can find the videos on YouTube truly amazing. I have since seen where they are tearing some or a lot of them down.
Not just the "support" posts either - I wouldn't trust the concrete in the whole building. They skimp on everything. Tofu construction, indeed! Wiki: "Tofu-dreg project" is a phrase used in the Chinese-speaking world to describe a poorly constructed building, sometimes called just "Tofu buildings". The phrase was coined by Zhu Rongji, the former premier of the People's Republic of China. Sometimes referred as "Tofu dregs".
I would have headed downstairs after yanking the second one out.
