  2. I had a five zone hot water in Illinois. Gas fired hot water boiler. Radiators that heated the basement ceiling right over the washer and dryer area and indirectly heated the kitchen floor. The garage floor was a zone. Main level one zone and upstairs two zones. Wish I had a picture of it as the tradesman who did it was an artist.

  4. We Southerners make fun of Yankees until we discover where the term 'Yankee Ingenuity' comes from.

I'm not laughing. When we lived in a huge old colonial on LI, we had an oil-fired (originally was coal, but was converted in the 30s, I think) steam boiler for first floor heat and hot water thoughout the house, a gas-fired hot-water boiler for second floor heat, and electric radiators for the third floor; separate thermostats (obviously) for each floor.

  7. Looks like a lot of different people worked on that stuff over a period of time and none of them sourced it from the beginning but rather added to the malaise as they saw fit.

  9. Does it work? Does it have the necessary safeties? Sure, it looks like Ludwig the Mad designed and built it, but if those first two criteria are met then what's the problem? It does look like it was added on to or modified as time went on.
Now, I was doing Machine Controls for 5 years, and I'm a plumber in lead, copper, galvanized and now plastic, so I can appreciate something that looks like hell but works works works. MOST of my designs and build do, if I am doing something for somebody else and they are paying me for it, I make it look nice and clean.

So, if it ain't broke, don't break it!!
