IYKYK......

I believe the OG stands for "Original Gangster"  This meme had me laughing out loud.

My peers think I'm nuts.

  1. Yeah, the old stuff would get you stoned without good ventilation. The new stuff? Grease and grime laughs at it.

  2. So do hornets - a near miss with the old stuff was sufficient

  3. The company I work for doesn't allow us to use anything in an aerosol can (when higher up people are around). No brake cleaner at all

  4. Remember "carburetor boil-out?" That stuff would knock you on your ass before you even got the lid off!!!!

    2. Hi Irish!!
      to Anymouse's story....
"Clear Testors or Pactra Model Airplane 'CLEAR DOPE!!!'" Whether you used "Buterate or Nitrate" Dope the effects were the same ... that "Banana Oil" smell (That was he original stuff!!!! ) ,,Back in the old "U" Control Model Airplane daze (Circle Burner) THAT!! was the STUFF!! I'd take a piece of that silk, dunk it in a glass of water, then stretch it out over a wing and "Pin" it in place till it dries and shrinks!!! THE out comes the "Clear Dope!!!!" 2 cotes was good for a while but "Glow Fuel" would work its way thru so subsequent models I used more.. had a "Top Flite" "Flite Streak" with a K&B Torpedo .35 lashed to the front!!! Put "9" coats of dope on the silk!! The Bitch flew like a dream and I could do the "4-Leaf Clover" .. "Quad 4 integrated loops" .. No Problem!!! The Plane "Survived!!!!! Sold it to a friend when I went into the NAVY in 1966!!

    4. I apologize, guys. I'm not techy, don't even have a cell phone, but building model planes and using the clear dope, I Did that. And I would do it outside, with a fan, if I could do it all over.

    5. It's a small miracle my brother and I didn't blow the house up, we used so much dope on our wings...

  6. A buddy of mine owned the local auto parts store and one day back in the 70's
when I walked in the front door I was met by a flame thrower. He was using a lighter to light the brake clean as it came out of the nozzle. Shot out eight to ten feet and fortunately for me it was several feet short of hitting me. He thought it was hilarious.

    1. Original red can Brakleen (from CRC Industries) that had CFCs would not burn. If exposed to open flame or heat of combustion (like spraying into the carburetor of a running engine) it did produce phosgene gas which is deadly as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. It was also absolutely deadly to every kind of insect with just the slightest application. I miss the OG Brakleen. I think the current stuff is just aerosolized acetone.

    1. Only if you are around Freon 12 with an open flame, dude.

    2. This! It seems almost no one knew what happens when that stuff met open flame. And we routinely used it in a closed garage in winter, with a kerosene heater running in the corner. My guardian angel must have PTSD.

Somewhere on the web is a post by a welder who found out the hard way & wanted others to know. That's how I first learned about it. He survived but with long term physical & cognitive issues.

  10. Yes OG is original gangster. Glad they put in an escalator. I couldn't climb that many stairs nowadays. Glad it didn't get installed before the song came out 'cause that would have just sounded weird

  11. Had a similar experience with 1,1,1 Trichlorethane. The selenium rectifier popped in the Continental 816, painting the interior with koolaid powder. It cut the mess right off the paint. That "wall getting in the way of the door" was real.... I had most of a 5 gallon can leftover, until I accidentally on purpose left the lid off for a couple months. Too, too stout.

  12. Once moved into a place that had some mold on the bathroom ceiling so I attacked it with some stuff called tilex. After scrubbing for a while I was so high I felt like the whole house was listing about 40 degrees and I was holding onto the sink to stay upright. Managed to crawl out to the back porch and laid there for 20 minutes before I was even close to normal.

  13. We used 2 and 3 component paints on bridges. MEK methyl ethyl ketone was always the thinner/cleaner of choice. If paint set in the guns for whatever reason, MEK did nothing. Soak them in a bucket of it for days. But man, a 5 gallon bucket of brake cleaner with the basket in it. Drop the gun parts in and the next morning, bright and shiny clean parts. All the paint residue gone. Then we would rinse off the brake cleaner with the MEK and put the guns back together.

Most of this occurring inside the back of a small box truck, in the sun, on the side of the road. I would have old buddies verify this story, but most of them have died from various cancers over the years.
