#12 - Maverick. My first car was a 1972 Maverick that I bought used. The original owner ordered it to tow a camper. It had a 302 Boss with a 3 speed on the column. Wicked fast, but no weight in the rear end so it could be dangerous in wet weather. With all the crappy electronic-controlled cars these days, I really miss it.
My first brand new car was a '72 Maverick. It was white with red and blue accents. Inline 6 and automatic. Not much power, but got me reliably through my college years and a couple of years in the business world.
Also my first, in 1980, but a 1976 four door touring sedan with a straight six - not for towing, but it drove comfortably from one coast to another (to report my ship) with zero problem.
My family had a Maverick. It was brown with a 6 cylinder engine. Very good car until it was totaled. We replaced it with a Mercury Comet (a Mercury Maverick). It had a V8, I think it was a 302. It was a 30something. That car was astoundingly unreliable. It would stall on acceleration, so we never dared pull out in traffic. It should have just flown, but the engine was … not right.

ReplyDeleteNo, it had a 302 2 barrel in it, and it was not wicked fast.
DeleteWrong - the Maverick did indeed come with a 302 Boss.
DeleteSince you never saw the car, you have no idea what set up I had.
DeleteThe only thing the Maverick Grabber grabbed was suckers
