Well done, but whomever was running the mixer panel had some bad ideas about who was supposed to be "foreground" and who was to be "background". Yes, I've run mixer boards before in auditoriums and smaller... The bass was too weak, the drums were too strong - perhaps the Audio Engineer (running the board) was not too familiar with the piece because except for the guitar the balance was wrong wrong wrong. It just bugs me, is all, everybody was playing just fine. My $.05 FWIW.
Igor, Steve the Engineer (no not a sound engineer, just a member of the mediocre bass players club) agrees, in both the rehearsal clip and on the on stage. I find sound quality in most Yoo Toob recordings is not so great. It gives me great pains when what should be a chest-vibrating bass line accentuated by the thump of the kick drum is not given its' due.
But to do it true justice, you need to have stacked 500W amps, and be playing it outside somewhere like miles of open desert, or a small rise overlooking a valley, or open prairie land. At 3 AM.
With the amps cranked to 11.
For reference, the small Los Angeles suburb community named "Tarzana" became named such because Johhny Weismuller used to go out onto his patio overlooking the San Fernando Valley at random nighttime hours, do the "Tarzan" yell at full volume, then watch his downhill neighbors' porch lights snap on in a widening circle to see WTF was going on outside.
He is competent for certain…. just that danged spaz face so many of them copycats do blows the “Effortless Pro” thing. Thank you Irish. I’m not hatin’. DG. FWIW many “Pros” do it too and look like they are constipated and have roids.
Damn fine job!

DeleteI assume the $.05 is based on inflation.
DeleteI enjoyed hell out of it. ET

ReplyDeletePhenomenal cover.
ReplyDeleteIf there was an award for "Best David Gilmour Impression", he would win it, hands down!

Good stuff Boss
ReplyDeleteExtended minor pentatonics. Simple yet effective, add layers of delay and some reverb and push it hard with a Strat bridge pickup and enjoy!
