Greater love hath no man than this,
This is a story sent in by reader Bob in E-town. The story is of young German Lt. Friedrich Lengfeld who displayed some of the best qualities of human being during the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest in November of 1944. Lengfeld grew tired of hearing the cries of help from a young American soldier trapped in a minefield. Lengfeld sacrificed his life trying to save the young soldier and in later years his deed of compassion and bravery did not go unmarked. A monument was placed beside his grave by the the 22nd Inf. Society noting this Story
amazing courage
ReplyDeleteMay he Rest In Peace. Good people were forced to fight against each other by vile, inhuman monsters. It's still happening and, most likely, always will be the case.
ReplyDeleteWow. What an emotional deed and story. Brings tears to the eyes just thinking about how it went down. My father spoke in later years about his experiences fighting in Italy in the Anzio invasion. Let's hope and pray we never have to experience or read of such things happening ever again. God bless all the heroes in our lives.

No more “brother wars”. I have seen my share, and have had my fill of them.
