My friend has a ski cabin there. 30 years ago, we went x-country skiing in Jackson, NH, and we put in about 50 miles. At dusk, we went to a place called The Wild Cat Inn, and guzzled some Canadian Beer (Moosehead) on tap. Beer never tasted so good!
The Boston and Maine's Conway Branch left the Western Main (Boston to Portland) at Rollinsford and terminated in a connection with the Maine Central's Mountain Division, which ran from Portland, Maine to Saint Johnsbury, Vermont.
The B&M's Conway Branch is missing some small pieces between Ossipee and Conway, but is continuous between Conway and Intervale. Timothy Mellon bought the MEC and abandoned the Mountain Division. The State of New Hampshire bought the abandoned B&M and MEC lines to preserve them.
The Conway Scenic Railroad leased some of those lines and runs trains between North Conway and Conway, and from North Conway up through Crawford Notch and into Whitefield, where it connects eventually with the Saint Lawrence and Atlantic (former Grand Trunk).
The trip up through the notch to Crawford's is spectacular.
Skied in North Conway one January. Got all the way to -6. Best part of trip was confirming Lake Winnepausaukee is real and not just a gag from the Bullwinkle Show.
The Texas gulf coast has nights in the upper 60s and days in the mid to upper 80s and no rain for like 35 or 40 days. I’m watering our fall garden every day, sometimes twice a day just to keep the plants alive. The winter garden doesn’t do well with near summer temperatures.
I'm jealous.

A great gig for a retirement job is working at a golf course. I shuttle carts and do the starter thing. No stress minimum wage and free golf.
