  1. South Africa was the first place I saw an anti carjack system with liquid petroleum jets to burn the perps.

  3. You can bet the farm someone will develop a way to counter or nullify this and that method will be in the hands of criminals within a few days....at most.

  4. I have quite a few Sth African friends who immigrated to my country but go back to visit from time to time. They say how bad it is depends on the area - some parts are still OK. Like lots of places in the supposed civilised world, you are careful in or avoid cities. The political scene changed recently so there is some hope things will get better as they are further along the diversity road, have already seen its impact and are regretful.

  5. Cool. Not so much the sublethal part but that you can now buy them commercially. My brother designed one of the first such systems for installation at US embassies in order to be able to fire defensively with no exposed soldiers. He got to test his computer controlled mount with a drum-fed M-16.

  7. Now make it so it can be set on automatic with a motion detector and not just manual control.

    1. I'd suggest replacing the up/down and rotation controls with a single analog thumbstick (think playstion controller). I think that would be a more intuitive means of motion control.
I'd also like to see if it can be mounted on vehicles.

    2. Automatic is not a good idea. Imagine that you have it set to automatic and the police come to notify you (as next of kin) that your dear mother/sister/child has been in a car accident and you're not home.
Mind you, could it be programmed to use Optical Character Recognizition to target anyone with ATF or FBI on their clothing?

  9. We use to do quite a bit of prototype work for a company called Precision Remotes. One of their remote controlled weapons was featured in that Mark Wahlberg movie Shooter. An internal fight for control of the company forced them OB I believe.

  13. Multiple units installed with overlapping field of fire. Pepper balls to increase the discomfort level. 2 or 3, or six German Shepherds (or Belgian Malinois) used as "Retrievers" and a van ride to an isolated area for the "Necklacing", another South African tradition.
    Miss anything???

    1. It would be prohibitively expensive. 5.56 is good enough for the yard, and affordable, juss sane.

  15. It took me 2 minutes to find an "Instructable" page for a Nerf gun version. Hardware and software easily found online. This isn't science fiction anymore.

  16. A friend had a rat problem. They'd come over his fence looking for food. He built his own version of this using a BB gun. He rarely sees a rat these days.
