Garbage tends to put off methane gas. If you have ever been to a landfill they install vertical venting pipes to vent. Some even can capture the games and use them.
Looked like that video of the exploding E-bike battery in an elevator. Electric truck tearing open a roof-mounted battery pack? https://twitter.com/i/status/1816398876338778220
Augusta GA has had such a low railroad bridge, just like that one. It is called the Olive Rd underpass. It has claimed well over 100 Trucks since it was installed. Truck rental places have even notices in the truck cabs warning about it. Now the RR has repaired it again, and it has been closed for 3+ months and still is. The City has yet to deepen the roadway under it once in 50 years, nor widen the lanes beneath it .
Exactly correct. Rather than redesign for the location of where to put the LNG fuel tanks , this was a conscious decision to put them in an out-of-the-way spot where they would not get damaged! Of course, when you make something idiot-proof the Universe comes up with a bigger idiot and you get a FAE when the tanks get ripped apart by a low-clearance bridge and you get a spark. BOOM! Unfortunately, said idiot lived. Dr. Darwin is highly disappointed.
The George Washington Parkway between DC and Baltimore doesn't allow commercial traffic, nor do they allow RVs because of low bridge clearances, some right at ten feet in the middle of the arch.
There's also a parkway in NY with the same restrictions, but I can't remember the name of it.
In an attempt to join in th fun, I just published my own political blog. Be kind, the learning curve for this, as far as I'm concerned is kinda steep...
The parkways on Long Island (NY) have low bridges, so we get the occasional truck smacking it even with clear signage. Story has it that Robert Moses did that deliberately to prevent busloads of city folks from using them to get to the beaches on the south shore.
What happened? It just looked like a garbage truck, not a tanker.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it was an explosion of that dreaded methane gas. You know, that stuff that's destroying the planet.

DeleteI believe that might be CNG... compressed natural gas. Possibly ruptured the tank and it went aerosol quickly.
DeleteTurned that up to 11 rather quickly

Looks like the gene pool just got a shot chlorine
ReplyDeleteDurham NC also has a low bridge, 11 feet 8 inches, the gregson street overpass, with it's own youtube channel, always amusing to watch the videos.
