Russian Wagner Group Warlord among dead in plane crash that killed ten, officials said
Was he and his deputy really whacked or is this some sort of ploy by an intelligence agency (maybe more than one) to get Prigozhin to surface?

Prigozhin screwed up. One thing you don't do with dictators is start a coup then let yourself get talked out of whatever you were going to do with the dictator.

Prigozhin should have gone all the way to the Kremlin, dragged Putin out by his balls, then hung him in Red Square from the gun barrel of a tank. That's the only way to deal with a guy like that.

I saw speculation that it was a missile, not a bomb, in part because a bomb would have either killed or rendered Prigozhin unconscious. Putin allegedly wanted him to be conscious all the way down if possible to think about the folly of defying Putin. It also sends a message to other would-be coup plotters.
Read reports that two missiles from Soviet air defense systems were fired at Prigozhins plane. As my father lectured me ; "What the hell did you think would happen? "; every time I did something stupid.
The latest I've seen is that it was his miltary company's private jet, not a 'passenger' jet. I think I've changed my mind. if it was a bomb under his seat of his own plane, he deserved to die. Didn't he ever read "Red Storm Rising"?
Well, I'm betting Prigozhin had one helluva surprised look on his face...
