From the "Front"

Some of these are repeats, but still worthy. Stay cool and enjoy what's left of the weekend and folks along the panhandle of FL, southeastern AL and southwestern GA, take heed.

  1. Today is the 247th anniversery of the opening shots of the American Revolution.

The Battle of Long Island, also known as the Battle of Brooklyn and the Battle of Brooklyn Heights, was fought on August 27, 1776, at the western edge of Long Island in present-day Brooklyn, New York City. The hilly location is now the site of Greenwood Cemetary.

Take the "R" train to 25th Street station in Brooklyn, walk up the hill to the cemetary gates.

There is also a Civil War memorial inside, take the road to the left, up near the top of that hill. There is also (unfortunately) Leonard Bernstein's grave, about 100 feet east of that memorial.
Other notable graves include Louis Comfort Tiffany, printers Currier and Ives, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Boss Tweed, Horace Greeley (newspaper founder and presidential candidate), Samuel Morse (telegraph inventor).

    1. That meme made the rounds right after the Maui "fires". I suppose it was a way of getting his opinion across as it reads, "DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS". Who knows? The way this green energy BS is being force fed to not only Americans, but to the world, it might have been.
