Leon Russell put out Tightrope that year with a clowny album cover. One night the power was out and the ol' Marlboro send-in radio picked up Flat and Scruggs doing the Foggy Mountain Breakdown. It was like a station from another world when it was actually Tennessee, none of that Liz Cheney of country music Garth Brooks horseshit.
Vince was in highschool when he formed the band. Northwest Classen, Okc, OK. They have a statue of him out front of the performing arts building. He graduated with my older brother. No I didn't no who the hell he was but I like him now.
Met him at the folds of honor golf tournament when I volunteered years ago, I asked him if he would autograph for a kid standing there. Great guy, I said, "you come a long way from being a silky", it surprised the hell out of him. Back in his day the school was fairly new and the other schools nicknamed the students silly's because they claimed the students wore silk underwear as if they were all rich kids.
I love these guys. They have a 2 album set called "Live Taking The stage". Still some of the best tunes and sounds ever. Still listen to it almost daily after 40 years, part of my tune rotation at beer thirty. The newer versions of these songs are great on this album, Amie, Two Lane Highway, Country Song, Harvest, really good stuff. You can find it on YT.

The band was formed in 1970, Vince Gill didn’t join the band until 1978.
