I'm intimately familiar with the tactic: Wife starts project, wife ignores advice from hubby regarding procedures, project goes south due to poor methods and materials, wife becomes frustrated &/or upset, hubby assumes responsibility for entire project, wife provides continuous critique.
...or wife jumps into project started by husband because "she wants to help" and/or "it's not getting done fast enough" for her. She makes numerous mistakes and leaves behind almost unfixable blemishes. Then when husband attempts to fix the blemishes and critiques her work when asked what he's doing, the blemishes are his fault.
When it comes to projects in and around the home, especially a seemingly simple thing like painting, which everyone thinks they're an expert at whether they've actually ever done it or not or watched a professional do it, it has been my experience, that there are two kinds of people; the meticulous kind that leave behind a pristine surface, looking like it was professionally done and the slapdash "get it done" kind that leave behind a less than pleasing result full of blemishes that are avoidable with adequate care and attention to detail.
The two are incompatible in a marriage and almost impossible to discern before the union. The only solution, in my experience, is to bar your partner from participating, which, of course, inevitably leads to other strife.
Then women wonder why MGTOW.
On another note, TFIF and FFF is only few hours away.
Just so there's no confusion, the only small caveat I would add regarding the definition of "continuous critique" noted above: Any portion of the critique provided during the execution and immediately following the conclusion of any project, whether or not the critique had any merit whatsoever, may at any point in the future (months, years, or even decades) be brought up, embellished, exaggerated and/or reiterated as required to provide definitive evidence of past, longstanding, prevailing or current incompetence, unreliability and general low status of said hubby without regard to any and all intervening or on-going contributions or good works of any kind no matter how consequential.
Painting by wife: 6 hours "set up time", 1 hour "phone time", 1 hour painting. I think she does it deliberately so I'll just step in and do it for her.
I have to admit I didn't get what was going on until I read the comments. I didn't even see the shadow, probably cuz I've painted enough shit in my life to recognize a decent coat and move on.
Many years ago, my wife wanted the guest bathroom remodeled. I said it's fine. She went in and started to tear it apart. I left it that way for 5 years just to make a point. Now, she isn't so quick to make changes.

ReplyDeleteI've noticed that "Kilz" doesn't work anywhere near as well these days as it used to in covering stains and keeping them from bleeding through.
