I Have Questions....

My phone needs an update.

I have never heard of or seen the "pushing hand" emoji. I know, sheltered life and all.

How does this become an important update to a billion dollar company?

Do people inundate the complaint line?

Do people really sit around and check to see if the emojis have the correct skin tone?

Is this the important issue of the day? "Muh Skintone"

Is there an office next to Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion

that has a Director of Emoji Skintone QC?

I can only imagine that hire.

I guess I'm just old and don't understand.

Anyway, rant over, off to better things, like breakfast!!

  1. Do you have the proper skin tone on your "rolling eyes" emoji?

  2. You have to wonder how much CPU & battery the phone consumes calculating the skin tone of an emoji.

  3. Bear in mind that most emoji are actually YELLOW and by yellow I mean literally the color yellow, not the color of Caucasian skin. I'm white, but those emojis sure aren't my skin color.

    1. That was the whole point of cartoons using that color. It wasn't caucasian, african-american, latino, asian, it was school bus yellow, a cartoonish color on purpose. But the perpetually aggrieved are perpetually aggrieved by it, so the rest of the world now has to bow to their mental infirmness. Brilliant!

  4. I have a company-supplied iPhone 8. I am currently two updates behind, because I read the apple-provided explanation of each and decided I don't want 'enhanced location services' or 'multi-colour emojis'. I also do not use, have a use for, or care about the enhanced function updates that will make things like the itunes store work better (I have never bought anything form the itunes store and feel it likely this will not ever change).
So far, this has been going on for more than a year and the apple police have not been able to find me (owing, no doubt, to the clever ploy I used in not updating the location services. We weren't all born yesterday. Nyah-ah-ah).
I think the general functionality is reduced in strangely subtle ways, but this is an 8 we're talking about; planned obsolescence is a thing here. YMMV. Go with God, my child (waves hand vaguely).

    1. Exactly! Unless the "upgrade" does something *useful*, it ain't gonna happen. My Samscum phone keeps telling me an update is waiting... Yep, it sure is. And as long as my phone still works properly, it's going to wait even longer!

  5. This is another manufactured crisis in the time of many crisis'
The information is out there, you have probably scratched the surface of the Cloward Pliven strategy, or communist tropes about how to manage society... see it for what it is, and you won't stop 'the noticing'.
This is another leg of the psy op to keep you destabilized, desperate for peace and safety, and here comes the government to save you! Just give up your rights, and we can make it all better. Just don't dare point out we were the ones who created the problem you need us to save you from! Then the jig is up.

  6. Just use the handjob emoji. It comes in different colors and you can add smoke! Are you listening designers??

  7. Who complains about skintone on emoi's? Millions of lefty morons who don't have a real life.

  8. It’s not what they tell you that is in it. It’s what they don’t tell you that matters to them. Shocked that they would not allow the diversity patterns but that is your first clue.

  10. I just read the update statement data. The pushing hands are for memes and GIFs with Stacey Abrams in them

  11. I have a 10SE. I haven't installed the last two updates because I really don't need "more better functionality" whose ultimate goal is to suck the charge out of the battery doing stuff I don't need. After about a month or so of ignoring the update notice in "Settings", the notice goes away. I haven't checked to see if the version # has changed via auto-install. Maybe I should.

As to "enhanced location services", why would I want an app to be able to verify my location "from within 100 or 50 feet" to within some lesser number and that will announce my presence near to some business that I could care less about?

I leave location services turned off anyway and the few times when I bring my phone along when I'm out and about, the phone is OFF. The only reason I bought a new phone is because the old one's plan was ripping me off for $25.00/mth more than the plan I have now and I couldn't transfer the old phone to the new plan. The old phone was only 15 or so years old and I only used it for it's original purpose, as a phone, and not often.

You have to ask yourself WTH did people do without them before they were invented. Then we wonder why anyone younger than 60 doesn't know what the term "self reliance" means. Smart phones do have some nice features like the Calendar app and the Reminders app which I find useful. Most of the rest I can do without.

  12. More than likely the update is to facillitate the phone company sending advertising to your phone.

  14. Irish - You should always refer to it as Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DIE), a much better acronym to describe the results.

  15. Sorry, but fk so-called “smart” phones that obliterate a person’s autonomy and privacy. Call free or die!

  16. Didn't expect you to support a liberal lefty company like Apple. To each his own but why anyone would use their hard earned money to support left leaning companies is beyond my comprehension.

    1. In all honesty, I do my best to not support any left-leaning companies, but it’s very difficult in this day and age and in the market of smart phones. I have to use my phone for work and there aren’t very many choices. Apple seems to work well for me and I’m kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place as are a lot of people. If you have any suggestions that I might be able to pursue I would be interested. I don’t think it’s gonna make very much difference whether we support left-leaning companies or not. Irish

    2. If you are using a company owned phone and they have an IT support group then a Samsung android based phone with Samsung Knox security protection is an excellent alternative.

    4. Pretty sure that a Samsung personal phone can run the Knox security solution without a company IT support group. Next time you need a new phone talk to your wireless carrier about this. Running Verizon her but any carrier should be able to help you.
