  1. Wore this LP out, more than once, back in high school. AM radio played the short version and I had never heard anything quite this heavy with just a few exceptions. Bought the LP and was very pleasantly surprised to find out the song covered all of side 2. The song totally blew me away. And side 1 ain't bad either.

  2. I grew up in a College town back in the 60s & 70s. Stero wars were common. I knew it was getting serious when the nerds hauled their homemade 5 ft speakers up to the roof of their dorm and started blasting that out across the campus. Lmao 🤣

  6. one reason it got so much airplay: a DJ could start this, take a bathroom break, get a cup of coffee, sweet talk the secretary, say hi to a couple of people, eat lunch, then go back to his booth and choose what to play next.

the band was drunk and high and the lead singer was trying to say "In the garden of Eden". next morning the band members asked him WTF was " Inna gadda da vida"? and, naturally, they made a song about it.

  8. This is my #2 all time favorite after Stairway to Heaven. I'm thinking I'm going to have those two playing on loop at my wake. Maybe I'll have the drum solo ripped and just have that going at about a 120DB.

Listening to this with head phones on really allows one to appreciate stereo as the sound drifts left and right through your head.

  10. I saw them live in 1969 at Tanglewood in MA. If they had those speakers, the performance would have been all the more enjoyable.

Here’s a live 1969 performance of theirs fir reference.

  11. I saw them in Germany in 1978 in a small venue. The lead in band was called Message. I bought their album, Astral Journeys, after the concert. It wasn't too bad for a German band trying psychedelic rock.
