#25 Big rock in the middle of the road. 30 or so years ago, I was on a business trip to CO. We were there over a weekend and decided we'd go skiing at Vail. Not realizing how far away it was, we arrived late morning. 1/2 day pricing started in a couple hours. We decided we'd take a drive around to check out the scenery, steep rocky cliffs and roads you had to pay attention to when driving as there were no guardrails. Go off the road and you're sailing down several thousand feet to be wedged between two walls at the bottom.
The road we picked went up, up, up topping out at ~11,500 feet. When we got the top, indicated by a convenient sign giving the altitude and name of the pass which I forget, we stopped at a pull out carved out of a rock wall and pissed off the side into a canyon that went almost straight down for a couple thousand feet. Given the altitude and us being flatlanders from New England, we got a little giddy from the sudden change in altitude. We were both laughing our asses off driving back down the way we came, until, rounding a curve that we couldn't see beyond there's a BIG rock, just like to one in the meme, sitting right in the middle of the road. Wasn't there when we went up ten or so minutes before. Sobered us right up even though we hadn't actually been drinking.
