I bought several cases of those blue shop towels for the biz a few months ago. I checked the size and the sheets were all the same length, and the number per roll was the same, BUT AHAAA it seems the rolls are now 3/8" shorter than the ones I bought about two years ago.
Everything is 1) more expensive, and 2) in smaller containers or less-filled containers (or all three).
The first product I remember shrinking due to inflation was granola bars in the late 1970's. These days, cereal boxes are thinner, tubes of crackers are shorter, gator aide bottles aren't quarts any more, etc. etc. The only things that I know of that are still the same are gallons of milk, cartons of cigarettes, and a dozen eggs.
If you are using an old recipe, make sure that account for shrinkage because NOTHING is the same size as it used to be.
Also, just because something says 'family size' on the label doesn't mean that it isn't smaller than last weeks' party size...
I'm so old I can remember Burger King's slogan it takes two hands to handle a Whopper was true. Today a Whopper is the size of a Krystal or White Castle.
I'm so old I remember when a White Castle slider was 12 cents. Now they are about $1.65. Two more years of Jotato and a slider will set you back about $5.50.
Bought a 5 pound bag of sugar for the same price I did a couple of months ago, only to get home and find out it was a 4 pound bag.....that's a hefty price increase....
I see they are trying similar stuff with bacon. Yesterday I saw bacon at a somewhat reasonable price, for these days. But applying the "if it's too good to be true" rule, I check. Sureasell, it was 12 oz not a pound. Therefore wasn't a bargain at all. Everything is a scam now.
And please comment on the taste new vs old.. Their comment board is rife with taste complaints since the coffee shortages a couple of years ago. I stocked up on the 51oz version (about 10 over a few months) and am slowly going through it. I think I notice a bit more harshness and less to no "hint" of cocoa which tends to mellow it out.
This reminds me of the story where somebody (Dairy Queen or somebody) wanted to compete with McD's very successful 1/4 pounder so they came out with the 1/3 pounder. It failed because too many people thought the 1/4 pounder was bigger. Very believable.
Magically both cans will make up to 380 6oz cups???
