Observations of Daily Excursions..

Almost every place I have stopped for, coffee, dinner, food shopping, etc. Is lacking employees.

Here is a partial list of signs:

"Help Wanted"

"XXX.XX Sign On Bonus"  ( any where from 500.00 at a bank up to 10,000.00 for a CNC programmer machinist)

"Drive Thru Closed"

"Lobby Closed, Drive Thru Only"

"Sorry No Grill or Hot Food, Limited Staff"

"Closed Early No Staff"

"This Area Closed Due To Limited Staff"

"Please Have Patience, Waitress and Food Service Will Take Longer Due To Staff Shortage" This was yesterday, late afternoon. It was a beautiful day here and we stopped at a restaurant where you can sit on the deck and watch the sunset. The deck was closed. The staff was friendly but very limited.

You get the point.

Where have all the workers gone? Are the "kids" hunkered down with video games? Parents don't make them "get a job"?

Just fucked up weird.

I'm off to the salt mine.

  1. When you pay folks enough to stay home and play X box instead of NEEDING a Job well what DO YOU EXPECT?

Not all of us folks have that nasty itch to go out and EARN a living.

I've offered over 20 bucks an hour for help in yard work. Help stack the green firewood for next years use and so on. I just expect them to work as hard as this semi-crippled 60+ year old. Oh and I don't have Wi-Fi or cell service for your PHONE.

Wanna guess how many youngsters show up for OFF the books CASH work?....Crickets.

NOW when the FREE RENT runs out and Evictions occur "Hold MY BEER".

Thus the Socialists-Democrats (but I repeat myself here) WILL NOT allow the Supreme Court to Evict their Peoples.

That will create the NAKED Truth of Homeless, Hungry, Broke folks ANGRY at......

Arab Spring anybody? Look it up, it was over the price of wheat getting too high and hunger erupted...

    1. Culturally, many Whites do not want to work since the Govt pays them to stay home. All these illegal aliens will be working shortly. Except in MN where I see Somali's out in farming towns (with help wanted signs) sitting around collecting govt checks. The Mexicans are working and running businesses.

    2. You must have a variant ‘white’ population. I don’t know anyone that wants to stay home even with a Biden check. I’ve been working for more than 60 years now. Admittedly only part time stuff the first few years.

  3. Indicative of the whole country. My guess it's a feature not a bug for the sheeple they have given up and waiting on goober mint to come and save them. That's why teaching history over time diminished. Much easier to control people. The upcoming come to Jesus meeting is going to be epic. May God help us all.

  5. As long as Uncle Sugar will TAKE MONEY from those of us who work to pay of those who don't want to work this reality is what we will continue to see. It's NOT COMPLICATED. When people don't HAVE to work to survive they WON'T.

  6. Employers of low end wage workers are competing with government benefits. Wages have to be greater than the sum of benefits received to encourage people to take a job. Remember that from the point of view of the welfare recipient, collecting benefits is their job. A person receiving full government benefits of welfare cash, food stamps, free medical, free or subsidized rent, free phone, and assorted other "free" things is earning over $25.00 per hour staying home playing video games (on their free broadband connection).

  7. Same in our neck of the woods. I have never seen as many “help wanted” notices across such a broad spectrum of services and industries.

  8. Dare I say this.....the government has practiced this style of "non-work" with the African/American people since LBJ's time. They saw how well they could control that population and get votes in return. So they decided to ramp up the practice.

  9. I keep hearing stories of retirees taking up minor jobs in their favorite resturaunts to help keep the place open. The fast food joints around here don't even work anymore. You have to repeat your order 3 or 4 times and they always get it wrong and are very slow. It's probably good for overall health that grabbing a quick cheeseburger is now a near impossibility but we're going to see a major re-structuring of the resturaunt business. One thing to remember is that fast food companies at the corporate level are real estate leasing and brand licesning companies. Once again the people suffering are the small businees franchises that may only have 1 or 2 retail locations. It is going to get to the point (if it hasn't already) that people aren't going to pursue or renew franchises and then you'll see a bunch of empty real estate.

  10. I'm fixing to quit my job. Underpaid... I can make the same amount of money in half the time when I'm self employed. A lot of companies don't offer a living wage. Hence the willingness of people to just stay home.

    1. Bingo.

The boomers don't seem to get it. Sure, they worked hard but they generally received the benefits of it (that was all part of the plan and they fell for it). They are generally too ignorant and unaware and think the same "system" is in place.

Fact is most jobs don't pay enough to buy a large latte at Starbucks so you can't blame people for not caring about putting in an honest days work.

The problem is not just lack of work ethic, it' equally the people who still have decent paying jobs getting a frickin' clue what's really going on in the big picture. The "lazy" can equally turn the tables on the working class and point the finger of "head up ass" ignorance.

      Delete
    2. The ONLY reason I have the job that has those benefits (which ain't free) and the pay is because I took dozens of jobs in the past that did not pay shit and had nothing in the way of benefits and earned the experience.

If the younger generation is lazy it is because their parents did an absolute shit job of raising them....plain and damned simple.

    1. That's my situation. I quit my last engineering contract assignment, in large part because of the mask at all times mandate. Now, all the contract houses require that one get the needle, and only want to see your resume if you also provide your vax certificate. I miss working, but not enough to get the clot shot.
And I won't get a low paying job, because Ohio is insisting that every employee of every business get the needle. My understanding is that the Ohio Health Department is strongly opposed to religious exemptions.
So, I spend my days weightlifting, building models, writing and surfing the internet, while collecting SS.

  12. Just a quick bit of math, so you can ignore their super special hand waving:

Every, every single, United States citizen, that snivels about "too lazy", "too entitled", "those that shall not work, shall not eat", loves the American genocide. They are entitled to enslave those around them. Their higher powers tell them so. And if the slaves will not grovel hard enough, for even less, then they deserve to be replaced.

  13. For some it's fear. They feel that the Covid Monster is lurking behind every tree and bush and that they'll be attacked if they step outside their door. A friend has a small business and had built it up to two employees. Both refused to return to work after the shutdown. The thought of interacting with the public terrified them even with masks and shields in place. Others have found that unemployment pays better than the job they had. Why work and live on a shoestring when you can lay around the house and live on a shoestring? In a few more rare instances, families have realized that they can live well enough on a single income. The spouse with the lower income realized that their income went for gas, car insurance and maintenance, child care, and job related expenses (clothes, meals, etc). Businesses are in a bind because most can't afford to pay higher wages. Higher wages mean higher prices, higher prices mean fewer customers, fewer customers means lower income, lower income means lower wages or fewer staff or in the worst case, closure.

  14. we get carry out from our local pizza / sub shop a few times a month. the last two orders were completely wrong. The person taking the orders at the counter is completely different everytime we visit. good help is hard to find and keep. Owner is a longtime friend. I mentioned it to him at church one Sunday. He was extremely apologetic and wished I had complained to the staff when it happened. He said, I can't fire them and usually can't even chastise them. they just end up quitting.

  15. The level of incivility right now is off the charts. On top of the stupid masks and noisy helmets that fog my glasses, I have to deal with aggressive, demanding and violent patients all the time. It used to be just the drunks and junkies; now they're the easy ones. One otherwise ordinary patient reached into her twat, peed in her hand and threw it in my charge nurse's face. Another kicked him in the nuts. And he had to finish his shift that way because they laid everybody off during the lockdown, and now we have no staff. They cough in our faces, shake bedbugs on us, and complain about slow service. Management throws us under the bus if they complain.
Now, they're offering me double time to come in extra, and I. Just. Can't. I've had enough, am looking for a job as a lighthouse keeper. ER nurse.

  17. I place the blame for this firmly on my generation, I’m 61. As kids we had to earn our way for the most part, we didn’t all win and you got out what you put into things. Somewhere along the line we decided our kids wouldn’t have these “problems” and life got easier for our offspring. Now, we’re the grandparent generation, our kids have passed the entitlement paradigm onto their kids and there’s no stopping that rock rolling downhill. I’m seriously glad I never had children.

2 of them worked & paid their way through college without any debt or handouts

    2. Same here. I'm 62 and both sons are grown with STEM degrees. One is a part owner of a tech start up and just got a patent for some complicated cell system/network iterface he invented and rebuilds and flips old motorcycles on the side. The other is a consultant in medical instrument certification and FDA approval processes and is working on a cancer drug research project and actually reads audio books for a side hustle. Busy young men indeed.

The point is that saying "the millenials do this" or "the boomers did that" leads to exactly the kind of divisive thinking that The Powers That Be love to use to keep us arguing among ourselves while they continue to rape the world.

  23. One thing I think everyone misses in this is that some people may be purposely refusing work for the sake of crashing the system. Think about it: everyone here knows that the amounts of money paid to the welfare crowd is unsustainable. Any democrat/communist with half a brain knows it too. Now the communists believe that if they crush the economy enough they can steamroll in and solidify their power for a generation(s). However, I believe other more conservative/economically minded people are feeling that if they help crash the system maybe they can do so fast enough that the average person will finally drag their butts of the sofa and start kicking every left leaning politician out of office. Thus it might be that we're seeing a race to the bottom. If it happens fast, we can see ourselves becoming slaves via communism; but if it happens too fast there might just be enough pissed off people to give the commies the boot.

Another theory I have heard bandied about is the concept of usefulness. The USA is sprinting towards a communistic oligarchy. The more cynical may conclude that if they have a worthy skill (machining, plumbing etc) they have necessary jobs and only the useless gender studies degreed wimps will be left to rot in camps. Unfortunately considering how quickly politicians/bureaucrats are firing medical and response personnel (who need years of training); this line of reasoning seems misguided.

In many ways I think those on the right unconsciously fall into one of the above thinking. How many of us have at one point said something like 'I don't care if they burn down the cities. I've got my own house, I can fix everything in it and I know how to plant & raise a garden/animals for food'. The only problem is that as every area that's tried communism shows the moment the useless are without food, those that are self reliant are targeted as being greedy and have everything they own confiscated & generally executed, long term repercussions be damned.

    1. Its deeper than that. Even states that no longer do handouts have labor shortages.

I've left out the fear of COVID 19 which is a factor but the big one is American workers are quite often treated like trash , paid poorly for the cost of housing and a lot of people have decided enough is enough. Employers have been allowed to arbitrage wages down since 1973 and this is the first time workers have been able to push back. So long as they don' live on benefits or by crime, I am fine with it bad results in all.

Socially huge numbers of people feel they will never own a house or have a stable family (wife and kids) or stable jobs there is no incentive to work hard and many people work as little as possible, choose happiness over money and just enjoy life more than chasing stuff

There are also a lot of jobs that no one trained to do and no one really wants anyway. Even in the halcyon trucking era of the 70's driving truck was considered an undesirable job, its worse now and so a lot of people chose to do something else.

Same with engineers, starting the 90s' when mass firings became a thing along with being forced to train foreign replacements, people decided to nope those jobs, Short term, it benefited companies. Long term, projects can't be done and we can't innovate.

he effect is largely, many people who don't have to work do it being extra income or them hitting retirement left the work force. There are also many people choosing to live on less or changing to less stressful jobs.

This is fine. Its will create issues for all of us but if as a society we can't address workers needs and the workers can get leverage , we deserve what we get. No one is entitled to cheap labor after all.

      Delete
    2. The '70s marked the beginning of America's switch from a manufacturing based economy to a service economy. Good solid, productive jobs being replaced by jobs of questionable value. Case in point: what is the value to society of having young people working at telemarketing outfits that mostly only annoy their targeted audience? There was a lot more value in having the young ones doing productive stuff, whether it be welding a car frame for General Motors or designing a computer for NCR. Better yet, parlaying those skills into their own company with their own ideas and values.

If we are looking for other turning points I'd consider Jimmy Peanut's period of crazy high inflation in the late '70s as being more of a symptom of the disease than the disease itself. Good productive jobs are the starting point. Working in a call center doesn't cut it for the employee, the economy, and the country. We are at the tipping point where incentive has been flushed down the toilet and dotgov is only hastening the destruction.

  25. I quit my job in early 2020 due to an idiot boss and seeing what was happening in the world and about to.
I could see that I likely wouldn't reach retirement age and if I did life would be a nightmare anyway. Best to just enjoy the next few years stress free I thought and given the state of the world now, I was right.
I'm unvaxxed and will die that way too.
I don't need to work. People in the USA are paid to not work. Once fully vaxxed that'll change though as UBI will be introduced. Game over then.

  27. Come on people quit making sweeping generalizations based on a few examples. If the majority were as bad as you say the system would have crashed a long time ago. Yes there are the lazy but in my observations over the last 20 years I see a lot of solid young people and became a fan of them. Those that aren't sort themselves out of the system and get those service jobs that create most of the complaints above. Build the good ones up, encourage them, compliment them. Yes times are not easy right now and lots of bullshit but in my heart I know this is the greatest country on earth and the good American people will right this ship as we have always done. It won't happen quick as nothing has for the last 300 years. We are many and the bad apples are few. We have loved ones we care about but no one wants to go first but the rest are free, but oh boy when they do look out. May God help us all and take a few with you if you go.

  29. An employer in my field is advertising a $2000 bonus for seagoing employees who refer a skilled mariner to the company. They're so short on bodies that they're laying up vessels for lack of crew. As a result, crewed up vessels are worked harder, which comes at a cost in terms of fatigue and maintenance, and accidents, sadly, of which there have been several in this quarter.
They're offering bonuses, but they're not training and promoting in-house, despite a long-list of employees who paid for necessary classes (on their own dime) being waitlisted for a training slot for promotion. This is a low-paying company with a long past history of high loyalty to employees, great retention rates, and a strong sense of community, but which is evolving away from that in favor of more corporate-style culture.

Had you asked me a year ago what the problem was, I would have said 'kids today, etc etc... But the juice is just not worth the squeeze in the example above. Nobody is starving to death or freezing for lack of heat here in the US... so it seems to me that if so many companies have an employee problem, the solution to many may just require a fucking mirror.
The Invisible Hand sure is a bitch when it's poised to slap you in the peepee.

  30. I am sure the low end of the bell curve allows for boomer parents that candy-assed their kids all the way to adult hood, but this boomer instilled a real work ethic in his 3 kids. Heck, if I could work from age 15 to 66 to support myself and then a family, they could damned well do the same. Just amazing how they all did. They are all employed and two of 3 already raising families, youngest (30) career and travel focused - heck why not. It all comes back to what your parents do/did which points to the real problem in the U.S.A. - single parent households with near zero work ethic and dot gov as parent that does not give a a rat's ass about the individual, so long as they get the vote.

  31. Here in a small west Michigan city, there are all kinds of signs for fast food workers, starting at 15$ per hour. They still cannot fill the jobs! In 1978, I started out pouring steel for 4.70$ an hour, and was grateful to get it. It took me 35 years to get up to 22.51 per hours, paying over 125$ per week for my portion of my health insurance. And I knew how to do every single job in a steel making factory, from running every single furnace, to rebuilding them all, to running all of the castermachines, the steel processing vessels, and the vacuum furnaces, and setting them all up, most jobs in the lab, etc.
And now they can't get a kid just out of high school to come in and learn how to fry french fries, and flip burgers, for 15$ per hour? Plus get money for college? WTF is wrong with these kids? Within 5 years, they can have a college degree right here in my small city, paid for, and ready to start out, in any number of careers, from business managment, to nursing, to hotel and restaurant management, to teaching, welding, computer science, or just about anything they want, with some of the larger colleges offering programs at our local community college, for bachellor degrees. Rent an apartment with a couple of other kids doing the same thing, and you have it made, and can end up with a college degree from Western Michigan University, all the while attending Muskegon Community College. Much cheaper and closer, while getting the same degree as if you had gone to the Kalamazoo campus. With little, to usually no debt.

    1. In 1970, $4.70/hr was more like $30/hr in modern money. Your salary, in real terms, probably declined over that span.

If people can't hold down some sort of life doing the job - a job that consumes all available useful hours and wears you down, they're not going to take the deal. There is a floor - the cost of living like a decent human being (usurious lunacy in our modern world). If it can't be had, they might as well stay home.

      Delete
    2. With inflation, $4.70 in 1978 is around $20 today.
Conversely, $15 today is only about $3.40 in 1978.

  32. If you had asked me 6 months ago, I would have blamed the millenials. And yes, they are lazy, IMO.

My company is offering a $2,000 referral bonus to any employee who refers a licensed maritime officer to the company for hiring. At the same time, my company has closed all training slots for young prospective officers (who paid on their own dime for the classes and licensing exam) who need training time in order to receive their license.
So, basically my company wants to poach other company's officers and not support their young millenial-aged employees who want to become officers. They created a caste system to save on training pay.

Thing is, my company has good intangible benefits, but the pay is low. So there's a perpetual shortage of officers. As a result we're losing officers AND the best of the young rankers who want to become officers. We're eating our seed corn.
I'd be pissed, too if I was a millenial. Officers like me are working overtime like crazy under pressure from the office. Buddy of mine has been working for the last 6 months, but we can only take up to 2 weeks off at a time. so yeah, 6 months on, 2 weeks off isn't likely to be good for the mind or body.

So yeah, the millenials are apathetic to the labor shortage. They're not starving or homeless, they're just broke and without hope. We're Lucy, they are Charlie Brown, and they've figured out what's going to happen with the football.
There's no juice to be squeezed out of being someone's bitch.
