That’ll buff right out! The driver self extricated after hitting the box truck that was parked in the breakdown lane
Aug. 10—LONDONDERRY — The driver of a pickup truck badly damaged in a highway crash Monday afternoon escaped with only minor injuries, according to New Hampshire State Police.
The names of those involved and a cause of the crash were not announced as of Tuesday afternoon.
State police troopers and local firefighters were called to the scene on Interstate 93 north in Londonderry at 3:25 p.m. Monday.
Investigators say a 2018 Ram 1500 hit a disabled 2003 Chevy box van in the breakdown lane.
The driver of the Ram was brought to Elliot Hospital with minor injuries, according to state police

ReplyDeletecouple days ago on my former daily commute i came upon a similar scene. ford f150 tee boned a three foot diameter oak tree laying cross the road. never saw it, no skid marks, stopped dead from 60 mph. ouch. don't know if he got out alive. why the hell won't people turn on their lights in the twilight hours?

That's why I'll drive on a flat, even down to the rim, rather than park on the shoulder. People pay no attention and drive on the shoulder like it's a third lane.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right. Wife called me at work one time with a rear flat on her front wheel drive Highlander and was sitting on the shoulder. I told her to drive it to a nearby convenience store/gas station and get in a parking lot and to hell with the rim. If needed we'll replace the wheel and tire and whatever else needed replacing and that's what she did. It wrecked the tire but but I got out there and swapped it out for the spare in safe spot rather than on a shoulder while she enjoyed a cool drink rather being a target on the side of the road.

Even a heated phone call ON Speaker Phone can distract enough to get you and other folks injured or killed.
Well if he had someone on the passenger side, it would have been a completely different outcome. F me.
ReplyDeleteLucky driver! Vehicles are much safer and crash-worthy than they used to be, but I've been on way too many calls to scenes like that where we had to extricate the victims - sometimes to transport to the hospital, and sometimes to wait for the body(s) to be picked up.

Must have been 20 years ago now, my brother was driving from Annapolis down to Georgia to see his girl. Late at night, he came up over the top of a hill to find a pickup truck just stopped dead in the middle of the road, no hazard lights, no brake lights, just parked. Rather than rear end the guy at highway speed he put his car into the trees bordering the road. Sheared off all the smaller stuff until he hit a big oak tree. I was overseas at the time but saw the pictures after; the entire car was crushed except for the driver’s area. Thankfully he walked away from the wreck with minor injuries.

It wasn't his time. I've responded to wrecks like that where the injuries are minor and some that looked minor but had fatalities.
ReplyDeleteNo luck was invoved. And to say that late model Dodge p/u's are engineered and built to the highest safety/reliability standards, just doesn't even begin to sound right. It just simply wasn't his time for a ticket punch. Fate, like God, won't be mocked though. And you can bet that he saw his "sign". Ohio Guy

ReplyDeleteMy nephew is a policeman. A few years ago, he pulled his Crown Vic patrol car off the side of the road for a disabled vehicle. Both cars were well off the side of the road and he had the light-show going. Some idiot plowed into the rear of the police car at highway speed. No one was hurt, but the police car and the idiots car were both destroyed.

Badly damaged my aching ass. That implies it might be possible to fix it. No. That truck was utterly destroyed.
