At 8:00 AM it was already unbearable down here. The humidity has eased up to to a "crisp" 84%, but it is still killer with mid-nineties temperatures.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, could be worse. I was at Diego Garcia for 8 months, '03 to '04, and it was 88 to 99, humidity 99% or better. Always rained like a cow peeing on a flat rock every noontime.

ReplyDelete2 years ago I spent a week in the Gros Ventre campground (35' motor home), bummed around the place, went to Jellystone, etc. Don't go to Jackson Hole, it really is a HOLE! Tourist trap...
DeleteWish I was there again instead of halfway up the east slope of the Wellesville Mountains (Logan, UT) in a *closed* campground (my wife and I are Camp Hosts, mostly weedwhacking, limb lopping, and mowing... no campers).
Lived in Jackson Hole decades ago, before Hollywooders and other douches discovered it. Can't bring myself to go back and see it ruined now. Did a lot of climbing in the Gros Ventre Valley. Beautiful spot.

ReplyDeleteI miss those kinds of temps in the high plains of west Texas. Nights were cool and dry, days were hot and dry. I remember the sound of V8's running on natural gas to pump water for the cotton about this time of year. There were little pools of warm air that had that distinctive smell around each pump. Little islands of noise, heat and that weird exhaust odor... Driving through the fields at night was a sensory experience... Seeing the blue lightning of electricity running over spark plug wires in the dark.... I didn't realize I lived near heaven then.... And damnably far away from it now....

ReplyDeletecool days, chilly nights. weather cycling between a. cool, cloudy, shifting to rain. and b cool partly cloudy patches of clear blue sky. wood stove going day and night. muddy roads with chuck holes. chainsaw noise of neighbors drowning out the sound of the Ibis. sounds of rain on the corregated sheet metal roof. cooking new meals from normal ingredients, via recipes from the internet. great new white sauce (to me) a little flour, some butter and some cream. whipped together.
