I keep location services OFF, and put my phone in an anti-static bag when I don't use it. You can also use a (clean) snack chip bag as well - it's cheaper.
OFF does not mean OFF nowadays. Plus, I don't use iPhone, I use a jailbreak'd Andriod.
I have a flip phone. Serves the purposes of phone calls and texting. I only use the latter for two factor authentication on computer systems. I have no need for smart phone, apps, etc. That surprises people because I'm a computer technologist.
Like Igor, all the tracking nonsense is turned off. He's also right that OFF doesn't mean COMPLETELY OFF. 911 tracking (GPS coordinates) cannot be turned off. Originally that was because it aided 911 operators to more quickly locate a caller's location. But we all know that once government has a resource, it will eventually be used for purposed outside the scope of the original intent.
I had to get a new "flip" phone caused the old one went toots up. I use Cricket and the new flip phone is semi-smart, it has some apps on it and browses the internet if I paid for that. I am about ready to chuck it and say to hell with sail phones. I traveled this country several times with just a CB radio in my truck and an ash tray full of quarters, I can go back to that. I tell them all I want is a phone with a contact program so I don't have to carry a rolodex. I don't mind getting text, but don't need a camera, I don't need a wi fi hotspot, I don't need a calculator, games...etc. They won't listen.
Do you think that "off" still means off, comrade?
