UPDATED: No Tent, No Hammock When Backpacking/Camping: This is one guys spill on tarp camping.
Here are two more tarp set-ups. Both are fast and easy. I like the open one for enjoying/using a fire (I may have posted it sometime in the past). The "pyramid" looks like it would keep one dry even in a downpour, but I wonder how bad the condensation would be.
I am always on the lookout for more efficient "shelters" that are simple, easy to erect and lightweight. I found this guy a while back and he offers some good advice for tarp camping.
I'd be interested in hearing more about the hammock set-up gun monkey. I like to sleep on my stomach/side. I have never been able to do much more than nap in a hammock. Of course, hammock technology could have changed since I last tried one.
You will get soaked in that's scenario with the tarp set up. Even a good old fashioned pup tent will keep you dry. I used a old NOS USGI WWII (buttons) tent and it never failed in heavy rain or wind.
Cool concept but I think I'll stick to my hammock. I too old to be sleep on the ground anymore.

ReplyDeleteIt was tough going, but I finally switched from back packing with a tube tent on the ground to my motorhome and clean sheets.
