I figure if an American soldier was carrying this pistol in a leather holster (which makes sense as the "top portion of the pistol would be facing "front" if the barrel was pointed towards the ground) strapped to his leg then a similar amount of shrapnel like what penetrated the holster and scarred the metal as it did, would have more than likely wounded the soldier in a similar fashion.
I saw the additional pictures in the link and thought to myself...Where does the United States get men like this? Then it occurred to me that they came from the same places my father and uncles came from, the heart of the U.S. where people saw a wrong and went to right it. Thank God for these men and women and may they all receive the rewards they deserve.
Wow! At least the loyal 1911 shielded our boy from some of the Nazi shrapnel. Amazing picture.

I know it is Hollywood, but in my opinion and from many veterans who saw the film it is one of the most realistic battle scenes ever made.
