I first heard it on one of the Dr Demento feeds on one of dad's many radios (he was a major HAM radio geek). I later copied it from my older cousin in reel-to-reel (my dad's setup that I was never ever supposed to touch). I first bought it in 8-track when I started driving in '76.
Umma Gumma was my first Pink Floyd album....I remember in 1972 my wife and I were renting a nice old wooden house near the Hillsboro river...many nights with two pairs of head phones and Dark Side of the Moon, among others....nice memory....
Wore out 2 vinyl copies. Made clean cassette copies from the third. First CD I purchased was a Mobil Fidelity Labs' half-speed master, gold finish copy. Yes, I spent much of that year wearing headphones.

I remember it clearly. While I'd listened to Pink Floyd's earlier albums, they didn't compare to "The Dark Side of the Moon".

I'd been listening to Pink Floyd for quite some time before this album came out.

And my friends would say to me "You gotta hear this album from this new band!".
Then I'd play "Echoes" for them......
