They fell into a deep sleep, the fire ants did their work and they never woke up. They found the unfortunate victim the next day. <br /><br />I found a poison a few years ago that I like. I pour it on the mounds, add a little water, watch them as the go crazy, attack each other and wait for the eventual destruction of the mound. All in all, it takes about fifteen minutes for the thriving mound to be reduced to a handful of ants; barely moving and eventually stilled forever. I learned first hand that they have this tactic where they crawl up your legs about knee high and then all bite at once. I danced for several minutes the first time that happened.
