Hey, you regular working class home owners or renters: start sending (re)election 'contributions' to your local government. They will look at your small checks and think "these small $$$ are NOTHING compared to the big ones we get from those building the data centers, hahahahaha".
The energy secretary issued an alert earlier this week about stabilizing the power grid. Although data centers are energy gluttons they're expected to use 20% of all available electricity), another culprit was the lack of reliable generators to keep up with demand like wind turbines (So much for renewable energy) -lg
Reduction plants (smelting), rolling plants (metal manufacturing), and now Data Centers. When these guys shed the load, for whatever reason, they cause huge transients in the grid, which can certainly handle them - but it's hell on everybody else, mostly the small household users. Sags, spikes, phase mismatch and ripples throughout the system... Our grid, indeed, is poorly protected and maintained thanks to the Green Weenies putting such regulations on everything that the industry is largely taxed to death if they try to improve any part of their system(s).
No blips here in the Gate City. We now have our own local power generation so aren't as much affected by blips in the larger grid. That doesn't stop them from screwing us on power cost, however. The main grid supplier STILL owns all of the power lines, so they've just jacked up the "delivery fee" to make up for the 100K customers they lost due to the switchover to local power generation. Bastards.
I live in DMV area. Right the now MD electric grid is teetering. VA has not kept up with their economic growth. Our idiot governor and the MD General Insane Assylum (my spelling) have shut down all of the coal power plants in MD. MD up until a few years ago was a net exporter of electricity. Two of the largest power plants which are duel fuel, one is coal/oil and the other is coal/natural gas, are still on line only because if they go offline our grid crashes. We are spending over $4 Billion to build a transmission line from PA to replace them versus upgrading them to be more efficient and cleaner. Keep voting Democrat or as the are now known the DSA.
There is a power plant in MD on the Potomac River right across from Loudon Co. VA that is only running at 1/2 capacity because the coal fired generators are offline. You think if they would up grade the coal generators to natural gas it would help? They are building several transmission lines from PA into MD and also into VA to make up the lost generation capacity. Any guess what PA, the Saudi Arabia of Natural Gas and coal , is using to generate the majority of electricity coming into MD & VA? This a problem of incompetent gov't and the idiot voters who put them there. Not all of us in the DC area are progressive idiots, but we normal people are vastly out numbered.
I forgot to add to my post about the MD idiots. That we have a nuclear power plant in MD that can add two more reactors. Guess what they are doing with that idea?
Come to think about it, there was a day last week that I noticed the stove clock flashing, must’ve been an interruption. Upper Valley here.
