  1. Years ago, we had a project where a giant forklift hauled on a trailer damaged an overpass girder. The driver was avoiding a permit load, ducked through some backroads, and the over-height forklift mast caught a 36 inch wide flange girder on an overpass. We had to place falsework to support the edge of the overpass, cut out the damage girder, and weld a new girder in place. The forklift was toast. I never heard what happened to the driver, but we made some good money on an emergency project.

  2. "I think he's fired."
    Understatement of the year.

  3. Over 44 years or so I made a good bit of money painting the repairs after people did things like this.
Nice contract too, the state dot is billing insurance and it is such a small job that the bids were always very high.

  5. Y'know those BIG buckets for scooping up ore? One didn't quite fit under the Seminole Hwy overpass in Madison, WI. I heard it and saw the cement dust in the air but missed seeing the actual impact. I guess all those signs about clearance are just suggestions.
