R.I.P. Robert Duvall (1931-2026)
Here are two Duvall films I enjoyed........................
Tomorrow (1972)
Convicts (1991)
He was my favorite too. Especially in Westerns, where he seemed to be a natural.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, Mr. Duvall.
Damn right! RIP Bobby!
ReplyDeleteHe really was a good one. I always had the feeling that I would have enjoyed having him over for supper...not because "He's a STAR!" but because I think he would have been good company.
ReplyDeleteRIP Augustus.
ReplyDeleteHe was awesome in Secondhand Loins and so many other roles
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a favorite, but I am partial to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkccqolaVGg
ReplyDeleteOne of the best scenes in that film.......
DeleteI dunno... that scene was almost a bit hard to believe.
DeleteThe first time I saw him (1963), I knew he was going places. He made that kind of an impression.
ReplyDeleteFeck.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jane Fonda still breathes.
He was a favorite of many.
I love that scene
ReplyDeleteI especially enjoyed how Woodrow didn't even bat an eye the whole time.
DeleteOutstanding actor. One of the very best. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteI liked him best in "Secondhand Lions"
ReplyDeleteGreat freaking movie. One of my wife and I's favorites.....
DeleteHe was even great in a nonspeaking part as Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird"........
DeleteDitto. That was a great movie. The fight scene!
DeleteAn under the radar western he did was "Broken Trail" from 2006 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482857/ I highly recommend it
ReplyDeleteReaper grabbed another good one. Why does he keep missing Jane Fonda? He got Jesse Jackson today, though.
ReplyDeleteAnd nancy peelousi and the turtle
DeleteAttn: ned Eastwood. I think secondhand loins was a porn flick……
ReplyDeleteScrew hollyweird.
ReplyDeleteFirst Hackman and now Duvall. We are diminished.
ReplyDeleteI’m dreading the day Eastwood goes
DeleteDuvall was in the Eastwood flick Joe Kidd. I'd like to get my hands on a Savage Model 99 as nice as the one he was totin' around you betcha.
DeleteBorrowed a 99 once, have wanted one ever since. To rich for my blood these days
DeleteAnd this just in: The Rev-er-und Jesse Jackson, in a surprising effort at solidarity with and support for Mr. Hackman and Mr. Duvall, has also assumed room temperature. I'm a little less disappointed at this one.
ReplyDeleteHOOORAY!!! Finally, someone whose death I can be cheerful about!
Delete(oh, wait....did I say that? I meant, he's finally over his long illness (raycisssss, LibTardism and TDS), and is at peace....with the Prince of Darkness)
Toxic Deplorable B Woodman
Saw that, heard he was shoveling furnace coal down below
DeleteJesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were instrumental in making the phrase "African American" the definition for black people. This happened in the early 90's. Obama was born in 1961 and the digital birth certificate that contained multiple errors categorized him as "African American." Whoops. In 1961 he would have been a "Negro." Said his father was born in Kenya which wasn't named that until 1964.
DeleteWonder if either of those assholes paid all the back taxes they owed, doubt it.
DeleteDuvall played a cab driver who drove McQueen around just before the chase scene in the film Bullitt
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like ... Victory.
ReplyDeleteCharlie don't surf.
Nemo
Hi Nemo and Irish!!,
DeleteNever forget the first time I saw the movie!! At the "Bomb Shelter" bar at the Perris Valley Paracenter just dead nutz South of MARCH AFB.!!! it was in the evening during a holiday "Boogie" (Lot of Big A/C, Big Dives and PARTY!!") Besides the SKYDIVING tapes we plugged in.... you guessed it..
Picture if you will, a bunch of the jumpers are Vietnam Vets!!!, and the he-haws, yah-hoo's and comments!!! .. This was some many now years ago bur I remember it like yesterday!!!
Blue Skyz,
skybill
His best line ever for me, “That’s bold talk for a one eyed fat man”, one of the best movie scenes ever, bonus if you can name it.
ReplyDeleteTrue Grit. Great movie.
DeleteDing ding ding ding
DeleteLoved Duvall one of the greatest actors of all time.
ReplyDeleteps He said fuck hollywierd and lived out most of his years in Virginia, maybe even som in North Carolina
ReplyDeleteI loved him in multiple films and series as he was good at what ever he did. What I liked best is he never told us how to live or politics while at the podium. He lived outside Hollywood in the ranch country of western Virginia.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Santini, Frank in MASH, Open Range what a discography, none better, ever
ReplyDeleteLook up the person he modeled that character after, great story
DeleteHe was fantastic in everything he was in.
ReplyDeleteGodfather, Second Hand Lions, Lonesome Dove, Days of Thunder, Falling Down... Too many to list.
He is irreplaceable.
We all meet that fate at sometime or another.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed Mr. Duvall’s work.
May he Rest in Peace knowing he made the entertainment of the world his only goal.
Godspeed Bobby.
Tender Mercies.
ReplyDeleteAnother one of his that gets overlooked, which I enjoyed immensely is "Get Low" w/ Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C25TG5kLJGw
ReplyDeleteLoved so many of his characters- gonna be missed for sure
ReplyDeleteI always said the Gus McRae was the best friend that I never met. Incredible character and acted perfectly. How he didn’t win an Emmy is insane
Between "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Lonesome Dove" ... there are so many beautiful and meaningful performances. God rest your soul, Robert Duvall.
