Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me, where is sanity?
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding, economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money? No, not poor me
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Oh, yeah
World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
May I ask-
ReplyDeletewhy you posted this?

Morning Juan,
DeleteThe song came up on my spotify rotation and it's always been one that gets the volume turned up.
Still prescient in this day and age.

ReplyDeleteNope. Ten Years After...
Delete10 Years After
Delete'Ten Years After'
DeleteI’d love to change the world as well.
ReplyDeleteNo shit, huh?
DeleteIrish, thank you for what you do, Luv ya man.
DeleteI used to crank that on an 8-track in my '65 Mustang in about 1970.....
ReplyDeleteI'll see your Ten Years After and raise a Freaker’s Ball.
ReplyDeleteY'all
DeleteI always loved the song, but also always thought some of the lyrics were stupid. But now I have to go listen to it!
ReplyDeleteEspecially the line "Till there are no rich no more"- dumbass socialists giving the game away. There won't be any fewer poor people, just no rich people. Matt 26:11
DeleteI have always loved the song and have it on an album of Ten Years After's Greatest Hits called UNIVERSAL.

DeleteI loved the song the first time I heard it, acoustically as well as lyrically. Wonderful work. Prescient.
ReplyDelete'til there are no poor no more
ReplyDeleteBetter?
Haven't heard it in years, but I "heard" that as I was reading it. You hear it once, it's in your bones forever.
ReplyDeleteThx, Irish.

Attended Hebron Academy in Hebron ME my junior year ('71-'72). We rented a bus and went to the 10 Years After concert in Bangor ME spring of '72. Whole lotta party on the bus up, and the colors kicked in as the show opened. Got back on campus in the early hours, great bus driver, one of those once in a lifetime trips... Whooo-Eeeeeee...

I've been saying for a couple years Ten Years After, I'd Love To Change The World, is more relevant today than when the wrote it. In fact it's spot on.

Another timeless one is "Trouble Every Day" from the 1st Mothers album. Zappa wrote it during the Watts riots.

A Space in Time. I have owned it on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
ReplyDeletestill sick and tired of being sick & tired. Perhaps a "one hit wonder" but who's counting? A true classic.
ReplyDeletethe rich will not tax themselves into poverty ( and he's one of them). Make the rich poor and we all become poor except those directing the confiscation of said wealth. I worked a couple of shows with this guy, he was a prick, abusing the stage hands. Was not impressed.
ReplyDeleteA darker sounding version that's pretty darned good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZYx55MtPYU
ReplyDelete“A Space In Time”, the rest of the album is darned good, also.
ReplyDeleteIts one of those iconic songs that us Boomers loved back in the 70's. I wear that "Boomer" label as a badge of honor. This song is so Iconic that it made it to the Freedom Rock Album. Yes, That,..... Freedom Rock album. "Turn it up man".
