Neither Do I...and it was only 10 years ago..

Granted, this Wuhan Virus fallout and true extent hasn't been tallied. Only history will look back and collate the numbers.

Stay safe.

Remember the H1N1 Pandemic? I Don’t Either

Although the racist-sounding “Wuhan virus” is now labeled as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, in America the real pandemic, more accurately described as pandemonium, is at the local supermarkets where store shelves resemble those in Venezuela.

America is in the grips of a panic the likes of which we haven’t seen before. What exactly is a pandemic, other than a scary sounding word from science fiction movies? According to WHO, “Pandemic refers to an epidemic that has spread over several countries or continents, usually affecting a large number of people.”
Per the Johns Hopkins dashboard, at the time of this writing, there are 147,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus spanning the globe, with 5500 deaths and 72.000 recoveries. Cases in China have leveled off over the past several weeks, suggesting that we in the U.S. may see the same over the upcoming weeks to months.

  1. It's been a grand effort, but people are better informed than they were 10 years ago. That, and the fact the symptoms are described as mild, except for those normally endangered by the flu, will lead people to feeling duped, pissed, and wanting retribution to those that caused so many problems.

If there's anyone to concentrate anger toward, it's the liberal wing of the media. Hopefully, the response to their efforts is lack of viewers and a substantial loss in revenue.

  3. 5500. Which means we haven't reached 1 HOUR worth of normal (6500 per hour approx) world wide deaths in all these weeks.

  4. "racist sounding"? There is nothing racist about labeling a disease by its area of origin. I grew up being taught about "the Spanish flu" and nobody ever called that racist. As far as we can tell at this time the current pandemic is caused by a virus that originated in Wuhan, China, and "Wuhan virus" is a damn good name for it. Not only does it describe its origin but it reminds us that relying on China too much is a flat-out bad idea.

    1. My thought exactly. Wuhan is not a race, it's a region.

  5. When I was young, my Uncle McClellan told me of the Scottish flu. He said it was terrie, though not very infectious. The Scots hate giving anything away.

  6. I remember that outbreak well. The smell! Yuck! The company's Business Continuity Manager put bottles of Purell on all the cafeteria tables. The joint reeked of that stuff! Other than that, nah, not much.
