8 Reasons A 1911 Is A Better Pistol Than A Glock

Some of the reasons cited:

1. Better Grip Angle

2. A .45 is bigger than a 9mm

3. The 1911 Won two World Wars

4. Better Trigger

Let the "Flame Wars" begin.

  1. I'll say, the trigger on my 1911 is really good, and because of that it shoots much more accurately.

  2. The .45 didn't do too badly in Korea and 'Nam, either.

  3. Smith M&P is ergonomically better than both. Sorry but its true. Triggers need work on all of them.

  4. "A .45 is bigger than a 9mm" Which is why, in addition to my 1911, my Glock is in .40 cal.

  5. You can't beat a 1911 for pointability (is that even a word?) and it's probably one of the easiest handguns around for home gunsmithing.

  6. One Reason Why a Ruger Mk II .22 Auto Can be a Better Choice Than a 1911 OR a Glock
    ????????????????whaaaaat???????????????????????
I am a firm believer in the "carry what you can shoot accurately" philosophy. Many people can't hit feces with a .45 or a big nine but can shoot individual butt hairs off a gnat's ass with a .22. If that individual was shooting at you, where would you prefer being hit: in the right earlobe with a .45 or in the center of your face with 3 or 4 .22 Stingers? I carry a 1928 .38spc Police Positive revolver that nests in my hand like it was custom made for me and I am tired of this min/max, mine's bigger than yours BS! AND, it isn't constantly pulling my pants down to where I look like Trayvon Pantsaroundhisknees without wearing suspenders.
And if you can't hit nothing even with a pop gun get yourself a bus pass that won't let you travel to the Boogleyville side of town!

  7. I couldn't get a 1911 out in California when i lived there but i did get a Glock .40 cal. I have a Taurus PT111 for conceal carry and hit what i aim at with both of them so if i get the money together to buy a 1911 i will probably just spend it on another shotgun for trap shooting.

  8. Some of us hard headed 9 mm users buy + P and polymer tips.

  9. The 45 doesn't have a fancy moniker, as in THE GLOCK LIMP

  10. I don't care what you shoot. Just don't shoot it at me.

  11. I own a Colt Delta Elite 10mm (1911 frame).

Due several issues, like finding 10mm ammo, 3.25 lbs in weight loaded, a 22lb cocking spring and undersized trigger width. I converted it to 40 cal. and it still shooting 180-200 Grain rds with a 14lb spring and get good grouping.

No longer a youngster, my recovery time between shots became a major down factor.

An with that said, I have grown fonder of my old SW422 (22LR-HP). At 1.4lbs loaded, its about 1/3 the weight of the 1911 Delta Elite. As I have found I can quickly and easily (2+/-sec) place 5 rds in a cantaloupe with nasty looking results and still have 1/2 a mag left.

  12. the difference between a horse and a car - they both get you places, they just do it differently. I carried the 1911 in the Army and can say that I have no love for them. Modern pistols do it all better, and don't weigh a ton with low capacity. A G19 is a better weapon in the hands of most shooters.

    1. Glocks and other "modern" pistols have John Moses Brownings fingerprints all over them. Striker fire aint new. More has been forgotten about 1911s than most know.

    2. I'm sure your right. I will think little of that when I'm required to jam my hand as hard as I can on my G19 in it's holster, to drive that gun deep in my hand, pull it from under my garment and defend my life. Glocks a superior combat weapon. Bitch about the angle of the grip? That's an admission you have no idea how to grip your gun. Have you ever had slide bite? No. Your an amateur.

      "Glocks a superior combat weapon"

      Please give some specifics.

"Have you ever had slide bite? No. Your an amateur"

On a 1911 style gun...well no. Do you even know what you are talking about?

    4. I have no problem gripping my 1911 as it has a grip safety and goes boom every time......

    5. Most people with 15+ shot wondernines need that extra ammo because they miss a lot. 7/8 +1 rounds of 45acp is plenty. But I like Glocks too....

  13. You show your friends your 1911's you show your enemies your Glock. I own both, I've carried both, but my EDC is a G19 for a couple reason. A G19 is a better weapon in a gun fight. There's no safety to deal with, and they always feed. Another big factor is that a $500.00 1911 is a piece of junk loaded with MIM parts that eventually will break. A quality 1911 is going to cost you north of $2,000. and up. If you are ever in a Gun Fight the authorities are going to take that gun. I've heard from several people that when said gun is returned they are usually not in the best of shape. So I'd rather give up a $500.00 Glock than a $3200.00 Nighthawk. I would not hesitate to use either but the Glock is a better combat weapon.

  14. "You show your friends your 1911's you show your enemies your Glock. I own both."

I hear you Anon and I am in the same boat with you. I resisted the Glock craze until this past year (I like hammers and safeties), but after buying a G17 and shooting it some I must say that I really like the Glock a lot more than I anticipated. From some of the comments here it is evident that some did not watch the video and missed the satirical humor of this post. This whole article/video was intended as a spoof. The guy who made the video acts as if he is "chewing glass" making his case for the 1911 over the Glock. It is obvious the guy who narrates the video knows exactly the reasons you stated Anon for Glock over the 1911, but he is a "die-hard" 1911 guy and is not going to admit those facts (like many people I know too). Still, I enjoy hearing from shooters and hearing about why they prefer this gun over whatever and I am a firm believer in carrying what gun works best for you! Thanks to all for stopping by and I really enjoyed the comments.

  19. I like both, the Glock is a good pistol, but the 1911 is FAR from obsolete or complicated as many of the ill informed spew.

  20. I carry a 45 Glock. I have a 1911 Colt Govt in 9mm as one of my range guns.

    I go against the grain.
