Hey Irish, What Did You Do All Day?

 1018 Cold Rolled Steel. Part measures 5.5 x 5 x 2.75

 1 piece for my customer.

I have no idea what it does.

That's a 3/8 endmill cutting 2.25 deep. I got a little chatter in the corners. :(

Now I can have a taste.....

  1. It's real purdy, and looks like fun. But then again if you did what I do all day you might think that looking at video of the ocean floor would be cool. Well, it's only cool when I see something I haven't seen a million times. So, I guess if you only had to make one, and it seems rather intricate, that might be fun.
AND, I'm right with you there on the Friday night whiskey there. Scotch is my default.
    Cheers!

  7. I vote "fixture" for assembling something.

Really cool. I'm amazed at the 3/8 end mill cutting over a full 2.25. How much do you think it was bending at the bottom? I'm assuming that was a cleanup pass after cutting most of the steel out with something bigger.

    1. I ran it at 650 RPM and 3.5 IPM. The radial depth of cut was .015 one pass.
( I did clear the corners first ) I find with long reach endmills they need full
some engagement to minimize the chatter. Also climbing is highly recommended. :)

    2. Climb milling is almost always the best way to go. BTW, tried to subscribe and got a full screen of internet gibberish: "<?xml-stylesheet", etc.

  8. I think that is the Base to Dr. Evil's Moon Laser. Don't let them finish the Alan Parsons Project.

  9. If you were gay and wore skinny jeans, you could sell it as art in New York.
