Winter Storm 2015 from "The Heart of Dixie"

This is a pretty cool video taken with the aid of a drone. The footage is from in and around the Cullman, Alabama area. This is about thirty miles due east of where I live.

  1. Nice video! Guess they should budget for a snow plow - just in case for next winter.

    1. You know what they call snow removal in Alabama?

  2. Great video. The drones have become a valuable tool for video work among other things. This was nicely put together. Thanks

  3. The South: Four inches of snow, and everything shuts down. More cars slid off the road than driving on the road. On the other hand their cars and trucks are free from the ravages of rust.

  5. Actually, we ended up with 13" where I live and Cullman, where this was shot, got 9". However, you are correct Neil. Four inches can be crippling in our area due to the fact that we are remote, hilly, and do not have ample equipment to handle it. Also, when the roads become impassible, things like groceries, beer, fuel, etc become scarce too. I will say that despite their shortcomings in equipment, salt, sand, etc. our local road departments, LEO agencies, first responders, volunteer fire departments, etc. did a great job with this storm. It began about noon on Wednesday and by mid-day on Thursday most of the main roads were clear. We did have a lot of dangerous ice from the melting snow "re-freezing" this morning and possibly will tomorrow too. Snow in the South is a lot like bad in-laws. You like to see it come, but you are glad when it is gone!

  6. That was awesome, I'm thinking I may need to get me one of these new fangled drone thingies and learn how to use it, it will probably come in handy one day........
But as others have said, in Ohio that snow, comes down in a matter of hours and the roads are just as full and moving as a dry warm day..........
