Man dies from asthma attack after police stop three miles from a hospital

" If this is what Protect and Serve means I wouldn't want this Chief or Officer near me."

I realize that tough decisions have to be made and it is easy to say what should have been done etc., but the comments from Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy Stelter only adds insult to injury. To paraphrase, she basically said, "well, at least the officer completed his shift and went home safely".

  1. When I was in the Army (many decades ago), we had unflattering names for individuals (won't use the term people: this cop and chief don't deserve it) that favored process over accomplishment. One of the nicer ones was REMF. OTOH, the chief gave away the secret - their mission is only for the cops to "go home safely", not to do anything positive for non-cops.

  2. I was a cop for 24 years. Yep, we had a few dicks with badges. This cop didn't know what to do, was afraid to make a decision, gambled and someone lost their life. You'll have to look at the dept's Rules and Regs to see if transporting a sick person is against the R&R. If it is, that cop is covered. Right now the Chief is covering her ass for the civil suit.

  3. I agree sig94. It is easy to be on the outside looking back, but in cases such as this "things" are relevant to the situation. I know the GF wishes it too, but with only three miles left to go I would have skidded up to the doors of the ER and told the LEO my story there. Bless them all.
